You are disputing that Dutch Sheets has been promoting the flag as a symbol of Christian nationalism, sending it to politicians especially after the 2015 decision to allow gay marriage to corral support for his form of theocracy? You are disputing that J6 rioters carried it on January 6? Please provide your evidence these things are false. |
DP. The American flag, when flown upside down as Alito did, is associated with "stop the steal." Here's what Fox News said: "The upside-down American flag is symbolic of Trump's "Stop the Steal" campaign as he circulated false claims the election was stolen when he lost to Joe Biden in 2020." https://www.fox13news.com/news/upside-down-flag-justice-alito-home-trump-rally All the major news outlets are identifying the US flag flown upside down as the "stop the steal flag," not just the NYT. The NYT broke the story about Alito and the flags. Alito did not deny the story. Maybe you should stop getting your news from X or TikTok or whatever other low-information sources you use. |
DP. The upside down flag is a sign of distress and its use hasn’t been limited to Jan 6. No matter how many times you say this, there is no stop the steal flag, and Alito isn’t going anywhere because his wife did this. |
The fact that some bad actors misuse a flag doesn’t mean that flag’s use is forever out of bounds. Jan 6 flew the US flag too. And violent antifa rallies use various flags and we don’t declare them forever tainted. |
Thanks for playing. |
I wonder if he physically beats his wife since he’s willing to throw her under the bus like this. It’s a nice Schrödinger’s flag for traitors though. No one flew such a flag - either flag - at their house but if they did it wasn’t what you think it was and if it was it was his wife who flew it. |
Correct. There is no specific stop the steal flag. But when flown upside down, the American flag can stand for 1) distress or 2) stop the steal, depending on the context. If you think "his wife" hung it upside down, was she signaling 1) or 2)? If 1), what was the distress? GOP Senators Thune and Graham said it was a "bad decision" and a "mistake" to fly the upside-down flag, so I'm guessing they thought it stood for 2). We know Alito is not going anywhere. The SC tilts extreme right court and it will continue to do so for many decades. |
Normally I’d agree with you but yes, ANY extremism is bad. Are they to the same degree and the threat right now? No. Absolutely not. Not even close. This doesn’t mean I accept it from my “own” though either. |
Ok. What was the distress signal for then? Because by the time he had it up, the traitor and man who threatened democracy was about to leave office. I mean, had he flown it when Trump was selling journalists to dictators, I could see his point but he didn’t. |
Do you not understand that by both sides-ing two entirely different things you are minimizing the damage that right wing extremists are doing, right now, on a national level? Show me the liberal judge whose spouse helped plan and finance an insurrection. Show me the liberal lawmakers who are removing one group’s right to bodily autonomy. Show me the liberal justice who openly sides with those who would overthrow the government. Show me where Biden has encouraged people to commit violence in the name of the Democratic Party. There is no equivalent. Tell you what, we can “both sides” when the “extremism” of the left remotely approaches that of the right. Until then, “both sides” is doing the GOP’s work for them. |
Threads are hard to follow here, I get it. You’re arguing with someone who agrees with you. I was responding to a pp accusing me of hypocrisy, not equating the kinds of extremism we’re seeing. They are not comparable. And I still tolerate neither. I think I’ve made that clear. |

The time to use an upside down flag to communicate distress or emergency was about a dozen times during the Trump presidency, not when he was on his way out.
When he held a bible and ordered protesters be gassed? Appropriate to hang the distress flag. We could have a whole thread with examples like this. But a SCJ supporting the traitor? Insanity. He’s unworthy of the position. |
Sounds like you think he is master of the house and can tell his wife what to do. Glad my marriage isn’t like that! |
Only she can tell us. It’s irrelevant either way since she isn’t a public official and we aren’t entitled to her reasoning. The SC tilts right and after the next election, I think it will tilt more so. Buckle up! |
