I find this part interesting.. I agree that public schools aren't great at teaching English, but they do teach history in schools. I'm also an immigrant.. came here as a baby. My parents don't speak English and knew nothing about US history, nor were they teaching us about western culture at home. I learned about US history in a public school rated much lower than MPCS. Believe me, MCPS is teaching US history. |
At some point everyone here is going to realize this was a troll posting or the private school parent(s) will just never accept that some of us are able to afford private schools and yet are just fine with our kids in public school. Some of the “just fine Group” have checked out private schools and still chose public. Some of us went to these top private schools ourselves and guess where our kids are… in public. Some of us have not had a reason to look at private schools. Either way, there is a huge group of parents in this area that can afford private school and yet still send there kid to public school. If you can’t wrap your mind around that, it’s okay, we have, so have our kids. There’s no need for you to worry about our kids, they’re doing great. |
It’s so easy to dismiss the truth by calling people trolls. And yet we all see the many threads on here lamenting about how crappy MCPS is. In what world does that translate into your kids being fine, much less “doing great”? |
DP. The problem is posters like you projecting your views onto other people’s children and thinking you somehow know better than their parents. |
Nope. We’ve provided concrete data to prove that private schools are stronger. You’ve all ignored it. |
And my kid (non magnet non W) got a five on the AP lang test and she’s somehow…a unicorn. Doesn’t matter how strong the privates are. My kid doesn’t need it. Not sure why you won’t accept that. |
We don't care. It's not just about you or your kid. |
Right. Is your individual kid’s score on one test supposed to negate all the clear deficiencies in MCPS’s ELA instruction? |
OPs original question: If money was a non-issue would you send your kid to private or a W public? Resounding Answer: We would send our kid to public. |
As posted on the MCPS forum. Critical thinking is important. |
DP. Yes, you're right. I'm a terrible parent. My child (who will graduate from our home MCPS school in Ganglandia) is doomed. It's all my fault for making incorrect choices in life (meaning choices that were different from yours). I'm really sorry to have let society down so spectacularly. If only I had a time machine and could go back and make the correct choices in life (meaning choices that were the same as yours). |
Seriously, considering this it the MCPS forum, I am fascinated with the number of parents who have chosen private or wish they could. And combine that with all the negative posts on this forum about all the issues with MCPS, I would say most are or would if they could leave mcps for private or home schooling. |

Sure it is. Isn’t that why people are choosing private over public? Certainly they’re not sending their kid to private for the benefit of other kids. |
No one is saying that. Calm down. |
