Public school parent went silent. They are trying to find the data lol. |
You are wealthy by any definition for DC area. Some posters may have random definitions, but you can afford any private and wealthy tag is irrelevant. |
The public school parent is letting you guys make fools out of yourselves. She even tried to help you guys understand the ranking with the link to the Washingtonian magazine. But since you guys cannot compete with MCPS in any competition, you guys are using a ranking (Niche, of all ranking!!??) to make it say what it does not say, to make you guys feel better about paying for an inferior product. Pathetic. |
+1 Give a person enough rope, and eventually they’ll hang themselves. |
DP My goodness ! Are you guys really that dumb ? Are you really that clueless ? Do you know anything at all? "It’s academy" is not a numbers game, Science bowl is not a number game and on... My God! |
Niche, which your Washington Magazine used, is a reliable source that provides filters to rank all sorts of scenarios, including all schools, private and public. You just don’t like the results. Still waiting for you to prove with another ranking. You can’t obviously. |
It’s a competition, among population of students, most of which go to public school. It’s a numbers game. |
We aren't Catholic, Meret/Holton is too small for our tastes, GDS is too liberal, Sidwell/Potomac is too pressure cooker, and I feel like K-8s shelter their kids. NCS is the strongest option IMO, and that school is the school Mean Girls was based off of. Not to mention, I want my kids to experience life outside of the private school bubble. If I had it my way, our kids would attend a strong public school from K-3, attend NCS from 4-8, and then transfer to a public school for high school. |
+1. B-CC, sure. But W schools? Lol. |
You don't have to be Catholic to attend a Catholic school. |
Here's another reason you should spend your money on private school. This is exactly what we experienced, except we didn't know until our son matriculated to private HS from a W middle school. Writing instruction horrendous at MCPS.

Adding that this is one of the reasons why the MCPS boosters keep harping on how wonderful the math is. That's all they got. |
Hmm, since you are posting this in the MCPS forum where the ‘W’ parents are, I suspect everyone is going to say no, they would not. You need to post this in the private school forum and ask parents who have either done it or are contemplating it. Most parents here know nothing about private school or are misinformed. In fact, I know this same question has been asked there. The ‘W’ schools are used as a friend of reference in that forum sometimes. It’s worth taking a look. Also, we made the switch and have no regrets. It’s like night and day but I will say it depends on what private school you choose. Look carefully and read reviews. |
Like anything, there are good and bad private schools. We also have loved the school we chose for DD. But we looked at 5 schools and there is definitely a big difference among schools, whether in pedagogical approach, community feel, facilities, etc. |
Parent of 2 magnet kids. Private schools weren’t on our radar when kids were in MCPS. The magnet schools provided best stem education and peers. However, if we had money and could go back in time, I would send my kids to private.
The education in English language in MCPS is minimal; very few assignments in reading and writing. As an immigrant family, our kids had no exposure to western culture and history at home. If students are not behind, no teacher would pay any attention to their need. |
