Why are these people being so ignored? This could’ve been prevented had the shooter got some help.

The same could be said about any mass shooter. We don't provide enough mental health (or substance abuse) treatment for many people who need it in this country. It is a huge problem.

And we don't care that people with raging mental health issues can easily get access to as many guns and as much ammunition as it takes to shoot up a school full of children.

How do you restrict people with mental health issues from buying guns when HIPAA is a thing? And even if we do somehow, how do you account for the case where somebody is completely healthy, buys a gun...then develops an illness a year later and still has that gun?

Serious question, does anyone with school aged children think of moving countries to avoid the possibility of their child getting shot every time they go to school? Or do you take other measures such as sending your child to a school with heavy security where this is less likely to happen? I honestly don’t know what I would do if I lived in the USA.

This is a private school, politician's always advertised private schools as better schools in every way, including a much lower chance of school shootings.

Turns out the shooter was Trans.

Can’t help but wonder if his mom’s gun control advocacy in some way contributed to his decision to commit suicide by mass shooting.

Oh, stop it. Can't you feel sympathy for his mother? She seems to have been a conscientious woman in a gun nut region, and today not only does she have to deal with the shock and fear of what her son did, but she also has to grieve for it all. She will grieve the victims and she will question whether she is allowed to grieve her son. She'll feel like she failed as a mother. And on top of that, people will be hating her, blaming her and speculating about her.

They ignore the fact that only 11% of school age children are in private schools.

Obama tried to do this with an executive order and it was literally the FIRST thing that Trump undid after the inauguration.

Why didn't Biden try to put it back in place, if it was an executive order?

Oh wow, my heart goes out to the shooter’s family as well. It doesn’t sound like one of those scenarios in which some gun nuts encouraged their ill kid to get into guns. I can’t imagine the pain of knowing your child did something this horrific while also going through the grieving process for that child. I hope that mother has a good support network because she is going to have a lot of conflicting emotions as she deals with her grief.

Can someone please tell me what the "doors" comment is about? I just found the thread but don't want to have to read 31 pg.

Yes we applied for oconus tx. Did not get it but will keep trying. I have to worry about a lot of things: taking a break from my job for a few years for the taxes are weird being away from friends and family isolation etc but the one thing I wouldn't have to worry about is my kid going to school and getting shot.

The Uvalde shooter entered the school through an unsecured side door. Some say it was "propped open" and others say it was just unlocked.

We don’t have the people to provide all this magical mental health treatment everyone is calling for. We could spend a billion dollars but that won’t make human beings magically appear and be trained and qualified to provide the treatment. Furthermore, mental health treatment isn’t penicillin. It is a labor intensive, largely hard to measure treatment that sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t and sometimes requires a lifetime of interventions.
