Do parents pay any mindshare to girls over-training/playing to the point they look masculine?

This has to be a troll.

Another college swimmer here who was very muscular. Now I have a lot less muscle and great balance, fantastic posture, robust cardiovascular and still pretty good flexibility. Oh, and an hour-glass figure.

OP, you have a narrow view. Try swimming!

WTH is mindshare?

Intense female swimmers don’t have what many would call the most attractive builds. But I don’t think it’s permanent.

My sister swam through high school and still has high thighs and shoulders. Growing up people used to say we look like twins.

Are you identical twins? If not, you probably just had different body types. BFD. Now . . . one mistake a lot of athletes, men and women make is that when they stop training, they keep "eating at the training table." That will keep you bigger. The muscles only stay if you use them.

I'm a dude who has been lifting heavy for 30 years. At this point, I lose muscle mass if I take a week off. The notion that women and girls (who have a much tougher time bulking, especially upper body) will gain permanent muscle mass by doing youth sports is hilarious.

PP - tons of respect for the effort and training required to be a collge gymnast. Many years ago, I worked with a recent grad who was a gymnast, and his functional strength was unbelievable.

It is vile that this thread even exists in the sports forum. Absolutely vile.

I have girlfriends who are deeply self conscious about their masculine physical traits they developed in youth sports. And the hysteric sports training regimen is far worse now than in the 80s and 90s. These young ladies don't have a say in the matter nor can they possibly comprehend they're permanently altering their body in a masculine aesthetic for a silly sport they're not even that great at in the first place. The end game for 93% of these girls is quitting the sport by the end of high school. For another over 5% it's quitting it by the end of freshman year of college. Permanently destroying your daughter's body so mum and dad can booze at crummy hotels on weekends and brag on Facebook what a great (local) athlete their daughter is.

Aaahhhh...Wut? This is nuts.

Op? Honestly, what is wrong with you? Body shaming? Really? Be better. Like a lot better.

This has to be one of the more repulsive comments I’ve seen on dcum. Strong, fit, athletic girls who have worked to hone their bodies for their sport are to be commended for the effort they put into being healthy athletes. All girl bodies are feminine.
