Tons of good Korean restaurants in Korean town along 32nd street.

Peter Luger’s can’t be too bad, it’s nearly impossible to get a decent reservation there.
I read that NYT review many years ago. Sounded like there was more to the story and that the reviewer was disgruntled.

Come in off hours, it gets (at least used to get) pretty busy.

+1. I’m sure it’s fine, but it has a reputation for being a tourist trap. My NyC friends prefer Keen’s for steak. It’s on 36th street in Manhattan.

Bodhi in Chinatown. It's amazing vegan and kosher dim sum and other plates. Very reasonable. Get the soup dumplings for sure. They're extremely yummy (and yes, I'm older than 8 years old).

I’ve been to most of the well known independent steakhouses in NYC (except for Luger’s). Keen’s, imho, was on the lower end. Perhaps it was an off night, not sure. And, to be fair, I always order a porterhouse so that I can have some basis of comparison.

-Quatorze UES 1st & 82nd
-Blue Hill near Washington Square
-Balthazar is a staple with great people watching.
-Or Pastis in Meatpacking
-Nougatine (more causal part of Jean-Georges) near Columbus Circle. Our favorite is to sit at the bar and have martinis, good wine and dinner.
-Marea on Central Park South near Columbus Circle.
-Best $1 Pizza on Broadway @ 55th.

Keens is on more than one best steakhouse in NYc list. Its reviews are far better than Peter Luger.

OP I agree with you, it's sometimes hard to find the good places, hard to know without doing research prior to arriving.

I personally LOVE Tacombi, they have a couple of locations (and opening one in Bethesda this year!)

Also, there is Mercado Little Spain, a concept by Jose Andres, it's kind of like a food hall, with different Spanish specialties.

Jesus Christ, just go to Eater, Infatuation, Yelp, etc. There are extensive lists of great restaurants in every neighborhood, every cuisine. Do your own work!

OK what is the point of this. If you don’t have anything to add then don’t post. The whole point of DCUM is to get ideas from people. Of course the OP could do research but he or she is trying to narrow things down that’s the entire point. Why do you need to be an ass?

The fact that so many people are being so rude and refusing to recommend restaurants confirms my opinion that NY has a few superb high-end restaurants, a handful of good neighborhood restaurants, and a metric ton of mediocre restaurants that either cater to tourists or appear to be fronts for money laundering. They other option is that they really didn’t know, and just don’t want to admit it.
