But we lack sufficient means to actually enforce many of those, like interstate transport of guns, straw purchases etc because there isn't a database of who owns what guns and whether they are still in that person's possession or not. If someone has been buying 20 guns a month for years do we have any way of telling if he actually still has all of them in his possession? Nope. But we should. And if we did check we'd probably find quite a few people who illegally transferred them to others. |
| Gun ownership as crime prevention is a lie. If they were actually such a great deterrent, we'd have less crime than other modern nations that have stricter gun controls, like UK or Australia. But we don't. Our crime rate is higher. |

Even woke NPR can see the writing on the wall
https://www.npr.org/2021/07/22/1018996709/rising-violent-crime-is-likely-to-present-a-political-challenge-for-democrats-in It’s almost like we should respect the police and let them police violent communities. Or we will see rising crime. |
Let’s just say there are multiple variables other than guns between those nations and the US. |
“We” lack sufficient means. Unless you have a mouse in your pocket, I don’t know who “we” is. But if you’re claiming DC doesn’t have adequate resources, why are they cutting numbers? And if you claim the feds lack adequate capacity, maybe they could detail a few of the armored and armed agents of the EPA raiding car repair shops lest somebody improve vehicle performance. There is no will to prosecute. As for going around and searching homes in violation of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, among other things, I suspect a lot of people have all sorts of valuable and/or unlawful items that have never been recorded for transfer or estate tax purposes. Why stop with guns? And there is zero empirical evidence that gun collectors and gun owners generally engage in unlawful transfers. Ever heard of the concept of probable cause? |
Such as???? |
I don’t care about your pointless empirical evidence. I care about taking guns away from people. |
This person has either reached new heights of trolling or does not understand what "empirical" means. |
The writer should be reassigned for such doomsday claptrap. That’s not someone worthy of covering the WH. |
I know exactly what empirical means. And in this context, it means abused statistics and false interpretations pushed by the gun lobby to justify people being able to own instruments of murder. |
This might be the most ridiculously ignorant comment I've ever seen on DCUM. And that's saying something. If you've ever been the victim of a burglary, as some of us have, believe me wasp spray is not what you need when someone has a gun pointed at your face (or at a loved one). These thugs don't care at all about gun laws. They have no respect for other people's rights (or even other people's lives) They only respond to swift and consistent punishment -- that is, being put behind bars. Can society rehab them while they are locked away? Hopefully, but we sure as hell aren't doing anything but harming innocent people by letting them remain on the streets to attack at will. |
Studies have been done on why crime, especially murders, are increasing. Very little data available, but they know 2 things, increased gun ownership increases crime, but massively increasing policing does not. |
Not if the hands of the police are tied, increased police won't make a bit of difference. Nor will it make a difference if the thugs who are repeatedly arrested are repeatedly let out on the streets by progressive prosecutors and judges. I would like to see this study that says increased gun ownership increases crime. Because, I have seen data that states quite the opposite. |
