| Let alone sports!!! Why everything has to do with politics?! |
I am fine with her competing for China. And while I might wish that she had a conscience about genocide, that is her choose. But I don’t think she is being honest. Why won’t she clarify her citizenship status? Many media outlets in China are saying she has given up US citizenship. But she hasn’t appeared on lists of those who have done so. She was also competing for US citizen scholarships from her high school. Which is it, US or Chinese citizenship? |
lol American athletes are choosing to compete for China… |
Do tell, where is this magical neutral location? |
Those that are choosing to compete for China, are of Chinese decent. If they actually live there, they will be dying to get out. LoL!! |
Ha! I live in the US and I’m dying to get out. Unfortunately for me I’m not an Olympic athlete so it’s not as easy. |
Switzerland duh |
You can’t choose your citizenship until you are 18. She had dual citizenships when she was in high school and that’s totally fine for her to apply us citizen scholarship! Duh! |
That’s hilarious that you actually believe this. |
China doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. You can resign your US citizenship before 18, but there is a process to reverse that shortly after 18 in case it was parental pressure. |
...Neither does the US. And? |
What? Don't be silly. Skaters country shop all the time. It's perfectly rational to decide, if I compete for country X, I'm unlikely to get out of sectionals as the competition is too stiff. But if I go compete for country Y, I'm likely to place in top three nationally, which means a trip to the Worlds or Olympics, plus probably cheaper and more abundant ice time. It happens all the time! And unless you're new to this game, the US did the same for Tanith Belbin, who is Canadian, by not only giving her American citizenship but freaking EXPEDITING it so she could represent the US at the Olympics, where it would have finished out of medals without her. Come on. Enough with the chest thumping. You don't understand this game. |
She doesn't have to have dual citizenship. She can have two citizenships at the same time. And once she's done competing, she'll restore her US citizenship and live happily ever after. |
Eileen Gu is not the only the American born athlete represents other country. Why you are only after her? Get educated! https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/02/03/sports/olympics-dual-citizenship-americans/ |
| These Americans so salty that a Chinese woman born from a Chinese mother that trained in China and speaks perfect Chinese is representing China. Suck it bozos |
