Will never happen. You can thank all the parents who claimed all year long students and teachers weren’t working on those days.

It's less than I thought had transferred and less than I thought would return.

Those numbers do not sound accurate at all since the number was over 13,000 mid year and the board of supervisor number was closer to 30,000.

Sounds like Gatehouse is cooking the books.

There was no mention of how many students left for other public schools. Some people moved to areas where school was in person and some moved out of this area for cheaper areas due to increased teleworking options.

Also at least a few thousand of the 13000 were because there were fewer registered kindergarteners than expected. I'm not sure how or if they were counted for something like the table because some never registered and they may not be considered to have left if they were registered and then pulled before the start of the year.

+1 my friends moved in with their family in the NYC area which had 5 days a week all year for ES kids. There is no way to adequately capture this number. There are people who were “enrolled” for early elementary, K/1, but attended only the bare minimum on the computer all year until the kids could go back in person. There are people with kids in K last school year, or people new to FCPS, who never enrolled. I think the number is A LOT larger than they are letting on.

The number in that slide is only people who started the year enrolled and dropped out. It does not include all the people who weren’t enrolled for 2020-2021 to begin with. I know 2 families who quit mid-year. I know many more who were new to homeschool or private from the start of the year. Most are not coming back.

I hope vaccinated teachers don’t need masks. I don’t want to teach with a mask anymore! These young kids need to see their teachers face and mouth.

7 out of the 21 families on our street pulled at least one or more of their kids from fcps to homeschool or switch to private school.

16 kids on my street alone left fcps this past year.

So if the number was over 13,000 at the start of the school year, then add in the 5500 since September and we have a fcps loss of around 18,000-19,000 students.

So masks still required for summer school, even vaccinated people. That’s mask guidance effective June 18 by governor.

Wonder if that will change prior to fall start.

I wish they would bring back half-day Mondays. It was a win-win for teachers and students. No random and arbitrary teacher workdays scattered on the calendar bc the half-day Mondays allowed time for development and planning. And parents liked it bc it was consistent and manageable. And us students liked it.

I remember it differently. Parents lobbied to do away with early release (the student day was longer than a half day) Mondays.

Half Mondays were awful and one of the worst things about fcps. The ony people who the half day Mondays worked for were stay at home moms of one kid. If they had little kids at home, Monday dismissal fell right in the middle of naotime.

Getting rid of hald day Mondays is one of 5he few smart thijgs our school board has done in recent years.

Although I could get behind half-day Fridays.

I can’t think of any in our immediate neighborhood. Is yours relatively affluent?

They are waiting for revised guidance from CDC, VDH, and VDOE per the slides.

Basically if you have an opinion, you need to be writing the CDC. Once CDC makes a chance, VDH and VDOE will update their guidelines.

I personally think the CDC should set a case or hospitalization metric for all kids and adults to drop masks. Here in Fairfax Co. we probably already meet it. Leaves a little wiggle room in case there is an unfortunate fall or winter spike. So many op-eds have been written by doctors supporting this approach.
