Get your kids vaccinated if you don’t want them to wear masks.

The recent articles about impact of covid months after even a mild infection should tell you to stop comparing it to the flu.

Death rates are far lower with covid than the flu for young people (kids through young adults)

Masks are theater. They are not based on science. They are being worn now for emotional reasons, not health or scientific reasons.

Again, mask your kids up if you choose to but the math and science do not support requiring it.

True -- at least for now. The "free riders" are able to ride risk-free right now because the rest of us did the hard lift of getting vaccinated. We put up with the headaches, chills, fevers for a day or two to get us to this point. Fairfax County adults and teens have done a very, very good job (I won't say "great" just yet) in getting vaccinated. And we have the rewards of that: exceptionally LOW covid rates! Yay.

But, when people are in closer spaces, the unvaccinated free-riders will be at risk b/c the virus will still circulate. So, enjoy the ride while you can, free-riders.... eventually the merry-go-round is going to stop.

Fairfax county just announced that they are at a 70% vaccination rate.

What you are arguing is not supported by facts. It is an emotional argument, not a factual argument.

The 70% is for over 18 yr olds (adults) and for first doses only.

The facts, are that there are still plenty of people who are at-risk when the virus ticks up in the colder weather. Ride free now, but eventually, the free-riders will have greater risk of catching covid.

I don't expect to be in an auto-accident because I haven't been in one for 30 years.... but I still buy auto insurance every year.

Only 52.5 % of all Fairfax cnty residents are fully vaccinated.

the "hard lift"?

You act like driving over to an office/clinic, waiting in line and getting someone to inject you with an experimental therapy was like manning the barricades under enemy assault.

That number doesn't include the many of us who got our doses as part of the federal government supply (DOD and others). Those are reported only at the state level and not the county level. There's a lot.

Thanks for that information. I've been wondering about that. I also know quite a number of people who drove more than an hour south or west to get vaccinated in the counties that had easily available appointments, when it was difficult to schedule an appointment within Fairfax County. They reasoned that since the demand in Fairfax was so high, they should leave the Fairfax appointments to those who couldn't take the time to go farther. Meanwhile, appointments were easy to find in places like Louisa or Page counties.

I just continued my introverted, shopping-averse lifestyle, until vaccines were plentiful here!

It's not that getting the shot is "hard" -- it's that we opened ourselves up to being sick for 24-48 hours. It does take at least some courage to put yourself in the position of chills, fever, etc. for 1-2 days.... can't say that the anti-vaxers were willing to take on that burden. Those who got vaccinated DID take on a burden that the anti-vaxxers get to ride-free upon.

It takes courage to endure flu symptoms for a couple days? Not really, since the anti-experimental-therapy-injection folks are risking horrible death or long haul effects of getting sick.. Any rogue virus bumping up against the immunity shield of the vaccinated will rush into the noses and mouths of the un-jabbed to battle their immune system to unknown conclusion.

You're not exactly Enjolras.

"We did the hard lift! We are heroes"

"It's not that getting a shot is hard. It's just that we knew we might get the sniffles, and that's pretty brave!"

You know what?

Some people DID take the risks and the hardship of getting vaccinated.

They are the people who suppressed our covid numbers allowing all of us to get back to normal.

And then there were those who are too chicken to get their shots.

So, yes! Some people did the "hard lift" of getting vaccinated, while others just sat around and spread lies. The ones who didn't get vaccinated, you know -- those who weren't willing to put up with fever, chills, headache, sore arm --- those are the free riders who are too chicken to roll up their sleeves and take the liquid gold that we are so fortunate to have.

Come fall.... those who are too chicken to do the hard lift are going to be at substantial risk. They can ride free for awhile... but probably not forever.

I can't tell if you are for vaccination or against? Or just against people who got vaccinated and are proud that they did?

What is your point? Do you want people to get vaccinated or not? Criticizing those who are proud to have done their social duty to get vaccinated is not a winning argument.

Getting injected with an experimental therapy under "emergency authorization", not even actual approval was not hard, considering they are everywhere and being pushed by government officials, instagram models. barbershops paid by the government and late night talk show hosts. It was the "go along" thing to do.

You may be convinced that it was wise, but that's a separate question.

I'm left to assume that you are a free-rider who is too chicken to get vaccinated. Got it.

I'm crushed that you don't like me!

But I am happy that you are on board for the anti-bullying. You are a role model, I hope you can visit FCPS schools and talk to the children about constructive conversation and interpersonal relations.
