You’re unnecessarily jumping like boiling water. I was not bashing all nannies, only the many I’ve seen throughout these 5 years in public places. My kids were hit by unsupervised mean kids and I had to be the one intervening to prevent injuries. |
You might get lucky with a lower rate if you have something else to offer. Our nanny dropped her rate down to $20 because she could walk to work (lived just a block away) and had every other Friday off. She’s a college graduate with preschool teaching experience and is wonderful. |
And every single unsupervised child is at the park with a nanny? Give me a break. I've seen several parents literally juggling an infant, toddler, phone and laptop while they try to wfh, even before covid. |
+1. I’m always curious as to how nanny-bashers seem to know the women on their phones are nannies and the engaged women are mothers or grandmothers. Our nanny is very attentive and engaged with our kids and everyone thinks she’s their grandmother. My BFF is Latina with a blond kid and everyone thinks she’s his nanny. |
I've offered to do play dates at the park several times with children who get along with my charges. The wfh parent is there, but they're temporarily limiting their attention to just the infant, phone and laptop, and even that seems to be a struggle. |
I am a Nanny & I do not stare at my iPhone all day.
If I did - I would be out of a job. Childcare (especially when caring for someone else’s child!) is a job where one must be on high alert. Always. No exceptions! This image of most Nannies ignoring their charges while posting to Instagram is unrealistic + unfair. |
Lol I’m pretty sure 90 percent of the posts here are from nannies. Rates are way higher than most pay and the negative attitude suggests many of the nanny posters can’t find work, cause nobody wants to deal with them. |
I have a job, thanks. I don't post on DCUM while working. Oh, and I make more than you would believe, but that's your issue, not mine. |
? OP found this to be true irl. |
The nannies who post here are clearly fluent in English including reading and writing. Yes, even without college, their starting rate is $25 an hour. That’s simply a fact. Non-English or non-fluent English are significantly lower. Undocumented are lower still. |
|
This. If you want a college graduate with teaching experience, it’s even higher. |
|
The PP who still uses “lol” sounds bitter. In all honesty I don’t see the “negative attitudes” nor have I ever read a post from a nanny who couldn’t find a job. Nannies who can’t read and write in English obviously aren’t going to be on this or any other English forum. |
Nanny here. I make $25 ph for two preschoolers. I work 55 hours a week. I have a decade of experience but no degree. Native US English speaker. Last time I was on my phone at the park I was filling out forms for summer camp that the parents forgot to fill out in a timely manner. |
