My favorite people are named Laura, so I'm all in favor of Laura.

Laura is really lovely. I'm less enthusiastic about Melanie, but it's fine.

Both are fabulous names, I've only ever known lovely people with both. Classic but not overused.

The difference between "Lore-a" and "Law-ra" is so neglible. I'm always surprised when pronunciation comes up as an issue with this name. As an aside, my sister is Andrea and almost everyone calls her "Ann-dree-uh." Occasionally "On-DRAY-uh," but whatever.

Really?? Fascinating. I am Laura and it is CONSTANT. My mom said Law-ra and would get so mad at my paternal grandparents (her in-laws) for pronouncing it Lore-a. I have had someone say it's only an accent thing and it's mostly northeastern accents that say Law-ra, but my mom was from Savannah and in laws from NH so...

I am a Laura also, no issues with pronunciation. My Italian (like from Sicily) In Laws pronounce it LOWW-ra (like WOW-ra) which I think is cute.

Among elementary preschoolers and babies, I know of zero Lauras and one Melanie.
