APS cancels Summer school for many previously qualified students due to lack of staffing

I’m a teacher and I saw first hand that virtual was harder for my children and my students than it was for me.

We teachers got vaccinated early so we could support our students and many have failed to do so. Summer school is a chance to make it up to the kids but now some are backing away from that duty.

Ok...”teacher”

The only teacher I know teaching summer school is teaching so she can pay for her lawyer for the DUI she just got. Not really bringing the A team to summer school...

Our family was selected for summer school previously. I'm still unclear after reading it who is still qualified for it.

What a mess. APS couldn't do right for our children this year. Makes me wonder about next, and if I should take door #2: private school

If you have the option, absolutely.

There will be only Lexia and dreambox offered to kids including those with IEP that do not have ESY. This may be the only option APS can offer, but the kids will be further behind than now....Pre-K that got a letter can go to Summer school and they got extra days of school this year. Great for them ,sucks for K through 5th that need support too.

Amazing. People pile on the hate for teachers and demand they put their lives at risks and then are shocked at the lack of teachers.

I do not trust APS Schools anymore. They have a bag full of bait and switch games. They used Summer school to calm down the parents to say look we are now offering all this for Summer, and guess what now can't deliver. They also promised in person learning back in the Fall, never happened. Then when they did offer level 1 unless you have a special needs child with IEP you probably believed they were bringing all IEP students back 4 day, NOT.... They say something to look good, but in truth it is just to take the heat off. If they do not bring kids back 5 days a week in Fall as scheduled, are parents finally going to unite and make a stance by letting our voices be heard, or do we continue to eat the ROBUST garbage we have been feed all year by the the school board and Duran?????

Oh let me fix that for you -
Telling teachers all year if they went to the classroom they were going to die! Telling teachers you don’t need to teach a person, it’s too risky even though you had the vaccine!, telling teachers oh but virtual is teaching and my kids loves virtual!!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You want to blame someone. - blame AEM and that silly Smart Restart bs and that nonsense ventilation lady! They harassed and harangued the Board, and scared Duran with threats of lawsuits and all kinds of craziness.

And now they will hate teachers even more.

What the heck are you talking about? The lawsuit is to open schools and it was by a vocal APE member, RL.

I just marvel at how ROBUST distance learning was.

Ok now that we’ve talked wages, can someone tell me how much APS teachers make? Obviously it changes by step increases. Thanks.

Is summer school in Arlington just for strengthening now? They used to have these cutesy programs.

I do not agree with you that things are as dire as you suggest, and while this year has been tough on everyone (but not as tough on the super white well off two income families that seem to be complaining about it the loudest in some arenas), your attitude here strongly recommends that yes you should eat some garbage of any variety.

Those got cut maybe 2 years ago. There was some complaining and then everyone moved on.
