+1 Still going in person but not happy with the lack of good protocols. especially lunch. |
Hope they will find a way to offer outdoor lunch options. Particularly for middle and high school. Otherwise fine with it. Not choosing virtual. But will advocate this summer for outdoor lunch options at my kids schools |
me too! Did you see the petition SW posted on AEM this week? |
At least some kids at TJMS are eating outside now. |
I recently visited friends that have been in school full-time for months without distancing. Masks, hand-washing, windows open, and lunch outdoors when possible. No major outbreaks.
Their kids are head and shoulders ahead of learning compared to our kids in the same grade. Their kids are not learning on ipads, they take home textbooks and worksheets for homework, etc. I was astonished at the difference in learning levels and it's so obvious how far behind our kids are. They need to be back full-time NOW.. The learning loss is real and it's only going to get worse. ps - friends are in New England, not FL or TX. |
Fine with it. I hope they continue outdoor lunch though. Partly because of COVID, mainly because my kids prefer it. |
OK. And there are also schools in New England that just sent some kids back in person last week. ![]() |
You sound like a complete moron if you think there is just one single person who is concerned about the relaxed safety measures. ![]() |
APS parent - I am totally ok with it. My kids have been in preschool, camp and now a daycare sponsored “pod” of 8 distance learners since June. They are not distanced. They are imperfect mask wearers. Until Jan/Feb the staff was unvaccinated.
We have had 1 quarantine for exposure. A kid was tested after a grandparent became ill. She was asymptomatic. No other kids or teachers got it - and they all were tested with PCR tests. I feel totally fine with school going back to normal with masks. They should go outside and eat outside often, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. |
Yes, it's a petition that's been around for a bit, but some on this site said they wouldn't sign it because of who created it, even though they agreed with the intent. ![]() |
Full-time |
Completely fine with it. About half of HS students (ages 16+) can get vaccinated today, and I expect by late August this will have expanded to include all HS and 2/3 of MS aged kids.
I also think case counts are going to keep plunging, as they have in other places with vaccination rates above 50% (UK, Israel). And like other PPs, I know people in various situations (private schools, living elsewhere) in which kids have attended FT with minimal mitigation (masks and...that's it) and have not seen outbreaks. A lot of the mitigation discussed ad nauseam on here would have been groundbreaking if APS had made it happen for 2020-21: outdoor lunches (and more), widespread testing, upgraded HVAC. They are managing to get all of this in place in time for case rates to drop to where they were last summer, and then lower. By August I think masks will be helpful, to a point, but I am not concerned about my kids being within 3' of their classmates. |
I won't sign it - trying not to distract from getting kids back 5-days.. I support outdoor lunch but refuse to sign a petition that this takes priority over in-person learning. |
It doesn't say that. You're just looking for an excuse to not support safety. |
This is pretty typical for APE unfortunately. "I would support that but..... " [translation: I don't support it but I'm looking for an out so I don't have to say it out loud] |
