x1000. As long as they follow the CDC guidance, while COVID will still be around, we as a community will get back to our normal. I'm excited about vaccines becoming a reality for middle and hopefully elementary children sooner rather than later.

but that's the problem here. They have announced that they are NOT going to follow CDC guidance.

Honestly, by September, the 3 ft guidelines will probably have disappeared.

The CDC is being super cautious. The vaccines work. CDC needs to step out and show those who are vaccinated can do more than those who aren’t

If I were APS, I'd still plan for at least 2 quarters of virtual. Seeking authorization does not equal immunized kids. Lets look back at the timeline for the 12-15 kids and project what that means for the 2-11 year olds. Pfizer requested authorization for kids 12-14 on April 9, 2021. If authorization is approved this week (as we all expect), that will be about one month. It is anyone's guess how long it will take after that for all kids who want a vaccine to get the first dose (lets say a month). And then its 21 days until the second dose. Then 2 weeks until fully protected.

Let's sketch this out or the fall. Say Pfizer requests authorization for 2-11 year olds September 1. Say it takes 1 month for the FDA to grand the authorization, we're at October 1. Assuming 2-11 year olds can start getting vaccinated that same day (which we all know won't be possible), the second dose would be given October 21. Two weeks later is November 4. Remember this assumes there is no time needed between FDA approval and kids starting to get shots in arms. APS' first quarter ends November 1. Personally, I'm preparing myself mentally to have my kids vaccinated by the winter holidays and to be back in in person school for the second quarter, which begins January 29. We will get there. Hang in there everyone and get your vax as soon as you can!

We had no major outbreaks in an elementary setting in APS. I cannot see any reason not to send kids back in the fall at that age.... with masks of course.

I do wish APS would have better reporting (ugh, looks like you can't view May data yet... again!) and testing.

This is a great article. I too, am a bit more cautious than I probably should be after vaccination. But it's hard to adjust to something things you've been doing for over a year.

You should post it on AEM for meltdown potential. Lol.

This is a great article. I too, am a bit more cautious than I probably should be after vaccination. But it's hard to adjust to something things you've been doing for over a year.

In Arlington they are starting daily testing for sports teams. Hopefully this will flow to testing students in the fall

Washington Liberty all spring sports, coaches told yesterday. Meetings with teams to explain, could start as early as Thursday.

This is great news as most of the many recent infections have been spread via sports (not just APS sports, travel sports which APS kids are on).
