Thank you for explaining this! That concept makes sense to me. It sounds like this is something that could also be reflected in the concept of “prophets”. Enlightened souls that experience the wisdom and enlightenment of a formless higher power, which is then shared with others through “testimony” or “teaching”. Thank you! |
This is literally the stupidest reason I have ever heard for believing in God. |
| Because Daddy in the sky is a myth. |
|
God is the Magic wand that explains everything, as in the "self-evident" post above. |
It's frequently heard in sermons |
|
Because god doesn't exist. None of them do. Do you believe in Osiris, Zeus, or Zoraster? At some point a switch flips, and you realize that believing in Jesus or Allah or Yahweh is no more "true" than Osiris, Zeus, or Zoraster.
They're all made up stories created to help explain things for people. But all are entirely manmade. |
| God revealed his true nature with Hitler. It is a murderous bully. |
God also revealed his true nature with Gandhi -- because humans are both good and evil and we made God in our own image |
Isn’t God made us in his image? Are you reversing this message. |

When the student is ready,
The teacher will appear. |
Well, since the words saying man was created in the image of God/gods (not sure if the plural "us" in Genesis is like a royal we) were spoken by human beings to other human beings and at some point physically written down by human beings. . . . . Or, as Clarence Darrow I believe said during the Scopes trial, God created man in his image, and then we returned the favor. |
There was a movie--"The Next Words You Hear" in the 50s. I guess God was thrilled when humans invented TV, since (as Galileo noted), the divinely inspired Bible missed out on the existence of Saturn's moons. (Strictly speaking, Galileo said the Bible should not be considered a scientific treatise.) |
I mean, this is gorgeous and all. But that beauty means nothing if you're blind. |
Job? Are you kidding me! The guy that God tortured just to basically win a bet against Satan. It is absolutely sadistic and the fact that Job is held up as some sort of model is really disgusting. It encourages people to continue to believe in a cult despite it really doing nothing for them in the hopes that there will be some eternal pay off for their devotion. |
