We are having a small birthday party and everyone is coming

It’s fine OP. Don’t listen to the weirdos on here. Eating is fine too. My kids have been hanging out maskless for months.

Op here. The weather was perfect this weekend. Everyone was masked. It was so nice to see the kids play and also see parents. I think everyone had a great time. Almost felt normal again.

See, this is exactly why I can’t bring myself to socialize yet. You just never know who seems like a normal person on the outside but is secretly an antimask psycho on the inside, just waiting to spring the “I hAvE tO LIvE mY LIFe” on me.

Oh yeah, people having masked outdoor parties with only take home food are anti-maskers and that’s why you have no friends. Totally.

We just went to an outdoor birthday party yesterday and it was great. The parents invited the entire class and probably 90% showed up. And this is the class that decided to stay 100% virtual! I thought for sure there would be more declines, but even their teacher showed up as a surprise and the kids had an absolute blast. Everyone was masked, individually wrapped snacks and drinks, and they just played outside for 2 hours.

Sorry, I still disapprove, OP. No matter how many people are eager to come to your party. Enjoy yourself. When people take off their masks to eat and drink, please make sure they're not too close together.

They will be outside. It's going to be ok.

+1. I think small outdoor gatherings are fine, especially if kids have options to sit and eat in different spots. But indoors with 20 family members? You're the reason numbers are going up even as more people are getting vaccinated.

We wear masks everywhere and don't eat in restaurants but we've had parties 4 times since last March (20/50/15/30 guests) outdoors, with readily available hand sanitizers, plastic ware, individually wrapped food and drinks, and masked for those who prefer. Has gone well every time. Have also probably attended around 20 outdoor parties or get together in the last year. So far so good, and both dh and I got vaccines in February so we're going to continue being cautious but living our lives.

You have not been cautious.

+1. Did you really need to invite 50 people over? I'm all for small outdoor gatherings, but this is a pandemic... Did you really need to gather with 50 of your closest friends and family at the same time during a pandemic?

PP you're both replying to. It ended up working out that way. I initially regretted the amount but at this point not anymore. I contacted all guests 3 weeks later and everyone was fine but we shouldn't have had that many guests in hindsight.
We stayed home and didn't go anywhere for months then realized it wasn't going to cut it for a year plus. No one in our family or extended family that we see (grandparents and two siblings and their families that we wear masks around this whole time) has had COVID and by next week, the last two adults will have had their second dose so I'm not too worried or stressing myself out at this point. We're fine with having and going to outdoor gatherings.
