First Day of Concurrent

They asked parents when numbers were higher and there wasn't a vaccine for adults. It's ridiculous not to ask when the game is completely changed.

That said, some of this is on schools. No schools should have k-2 concurrent. Change the teachers. Ours has 1-2 virtual per grade ane no ilttle kid is in concurrent. You are hybrid or virtual and you have a teacher assigned teh same.

How many plans do you think we are going to make? This was a ton of work to put together. Change the teachers? But parents freaked out when that model was presented. If I have learned anything during this pandemic is that you are not going to please everyone, and I can't care about that. I need to make plans based on what I think is best for STUDENTS while keeping everyone safe. I don't think I could have done much better.

Immersion is sort of concurrent for k-2 in APS. They rotate because they didn't want to break up teaching teams. So my kid gets 30 minutes of instruction from his English teacher and 30 minutes from.spanish and that is it.

Then they go to teach the other in person class and then the virtual..immersion teachers are teaching 6 of the same lessons a day.

We’re in DL during elementary concurrent and it seems to be going well. I was worried my kid would feel left out, but it’s a change in routine for everyone and that alone is entertaining for him.

it is ridiculous that they are doing all of this to keep kids 6 feet apart when all the data suggest that 3 feet apart is totally fine.

The inconsistency across schools within APS is a major issue. Why were some schools able to do 4 days of hybrid (2 days for group A, 2 for group B) and allow their families to re-choose their selection, while others are only doing 2 per grade and maintaining a wait list? Is it because the heavily populated schools could not handle a 70% return rate even with 4 days?

The concurrent model ensures that everyone gets screwed equitably. Teachers, kids in the classroom, kids at home.

Yep. Why are some schools offering in person instruction for in person students and others just offering Teams instruction to in person kids? (Not ADA driven. Just a decision the principal and teachers made not to offer in person instruction.)

That sounds like your principal made a bad choice. The regrouping of students made much more sense.

It is both immersion schools because the teachers are a team and it was too complicated I guess. I think they also felt like it was too much to switch for immersion due to the language learning. But yeah, I agree.

Pleasantly surprised to learn that 7 out of 8 of my high schooler’s teachers will be in the classroom/gym. All the doom and gloom warnings on DCUM and AEM had me thinking that wouldn’t be the case.

Only 700 teachers in all LCPS have p1 status to teach at home. It isn’t as widespread as some people seem to think. And the low number I think speaks to the fact it was actually quite a high threshold to receive it.

Yep. It's APS. They're fabulous about screwing over everyone equitably.

Do you seriously think teachers get to make decisions like that? That happens at the administrator level..
