First Day of Concurrent

It was great to see some of your kids. I hope they enjoyed themselves as much as I did.

My kids (one at home, one at school) both had great days. DC at home said it took longer to get into meetings today but her teachers had already warned them about that (DC is an anxious kid so that was helpful).

Thanks to our teachers who approached with so much enthusiasm and patience!

DD10 is thrilled to be back. Lots of technical difficulties today, but that didn’t put a damper on the return.

Mine cried. Camera set up to look at the back of the teacher while she teaches the classroom. One teacher forgot the virtual kids were there. I've told my child to be patient for a few days and see if it gets better, but personally it looked very clearly like the focus will be in-class and those online can just follow along.

MS Kid at home said audio was not ideal for the in person teachers. Hopefully that will improve. Otherwise seemed fine.

Not an option now for many of Us. Literally a waitlist at some schools.

Did anyone let the teacher know?

I've heard the same thing for 5th.

A friend's child at a different APS school from our own said the teacher forgot to release the virtual kids to lunch. Left them on mute and was talking with the kids in the class, so they eventually decided among themselves they were excused.

I'm sure it will get better, this is really hard for teachers and students alike, but it wasn't a happy day for many children.

I’m a teacher. It was a little hectic, and I can see how that would (kind of unfairly) affect the virtual students. We are going to get better, and things will be smoother. I have to say, I really, really enjoyed seeing their faces. (I’m in high school, so haven’t gotten too much of that.)

With the concurrent model all kids will be virtual more than they are in person.

This.
It's extremely hard to teach two groups of students in different places at the same time. This was just the first day.
