Not be. I toured it. The school is a hot school for NYC and Long Island as closer but still in the country. It is absolutely “crunchy” art stores. Cool authentic restaurants, great art scene. Little secret. SUNY wants to attract more out of state students and not just NJ students. They offered my daughter (I am in Maryland) in state tuition rate all four years. And tuition is only 10k a year |
| I'd add UVA to this list - the school culture in general isn't necessarily outdoorsy, but their Outdoors Club is huge and super active, with dozens of outings to participate in every week. It's a really fun group. There's also a really good Outdoor Gear Rental program through the university. My DC has rented tents and backpacks and other gear for ~$1-2 for a multi-day rental. The proximity to Shenandoah NP, Blue Ridge Parkway, and other great locations is what really makes the outdoors community there thrive even if it isn't the overall vibe of the school. |
