I think it’s funny how so many people say things like doctors appointments, as if that’s a daily occurrence for most (except SN obviously) or after school activities, without really addressing 8-3 when the kids are in school and what they’re doing.... |
Finding a one-off babysitter may work for you. Most others prefer to have the same person, and it’s not reasonable to assume that someone will be available whenever you want unless you pay for their time. |
I have three kids and work outside the home (so does my husband). I have childcare for my children because I can’t care for them while I’m working. I don’t get why mothers who stay at home would need childcare. Sure you have an occasional appointment of what not, but there are not so many regular things that occur during the work day that you would not be able to take care of your kids. The PP who said they need to clean out closets etc, that is 1) infrequent and 2) takes an hour max. I just wish SAHMs who have a full time nanny (or frankly even PT) call a spade a spade — they want to not work and also don’t want to take care of their kids! Look I get it, staying at home with kids all day is daunting, but don’t say you need a nanny! |
The point is that most sahp with a full time nanny a. have a parent with physical limitations that necessitates having someone else wrangle kids and do things around the house, b. have a parent who wants to things for themself or c. has a parent who wants 1-1 time with kids. In most of those situations, there’s at least one child home full time. |
Why not? Seems basic. Do you have a disability? |

Yes, more power to them if they can afford it...but really, listing things like "doing the taxes" and "planning vacations" doesn't occupy 40 hrs x 52 weeks a year. |
