Sounds like they cant afford kids. Even when OP says she can afford it, everyone says don't buy it. They are CHEAP. |
Why are you asking us then? Just buy what you like and can afford. Who cares what we think. |
First world problems. Honestly, op I don't know why you are looking for advice here! |
Maybe not everyone can afford the stuff. You live in a bubble. |
Dp That is a ridiculous argument. I can't afford a Lamborghini does that mean I can't afford a car? Not everyone cares to get "the best" crib or "the best" dresser or stroller etc. That doesn't mean we can 't afford kids! |

I could have afforded it. Instead I bought ikea, which was perfectly sturdy and nice looking. Then gave it away when I was done. No harm in buying more expensive if you can, but if you’re contemplating selling it and that’s factoring in...you may not actually be able to afford it, and you may be disappointed when you try.
But yo your question, I don’t think an extra $1k for baby furniture is worth it. |
Yes, this. |
You’re getting pretty miffed OP. This is an anonymous forum. When you ask a question you get what you get and you don’t get upset. |
| Op, have you looked into Oeuf furniture? I love the look. At Babyletto. |
Or Babyletto |
| I purchased a pottery barn crib and dresser that I absolutely loved for dd1 (over my husband’s protests). She wasn’t ready to be moved out of it when DD2 came along so we purchased a second ikea crib. To be honest the ikea crib held up much better than the pottery barn one- on which the paint started chipping early on and which dented easily. That being said I don’t regret getting it because at the time I really loved it and got a lot of joy out of putting together my dream nursery during a rough pregnancy. However the furniture does not hold up well and there is no way we could have sold it for anywhere close to 300-500 after 3 years of use, so if that is an important factor look for a different brand. |
| Parenthood is a marathon not a sprint. This stuff will seem ridiculous to you in a few years because it really doesn’t matter. You will not be hanging out in your kids bedroom during daylight hours. Just pick one. |
| Is it worth it? No. Can you buy it anyway if it brings you some kind of joy? Sure. Just don’t expect to sell it for much down the road. |
+1 We could afford a new but I am a cheap about certain things. I got a used oeuf crib and a used pottery barn dresser. I’m really happy with both. |
No it isn’t, especially if OP is spending a lot for a “convertible” crib and dresser thinking it will be used until child leaves for college. Will it be functional? Probably. But OP I’m tell you from experience- it will be dinged and scratched and look like garbage in a relatively short time. Is long term aesthetic is important to you, so not buy this. They are selling you a pretty image, not quality furniture. Either get used or buy Amish made, if you want something that lasts for an entire childhood. It may not be preppy Instagram material, but Amish made furniture for children is real wood and looks beautiful year and year. |
