I would recommend you invest some time in the CDC website, learn how CoVid deaths are reported (ICD Codes and underlying conditions), research how much total deaths go up year after year and compare 2020 to previous years by the average increase of total deaths by year. After that, deaths by age, especially those under age 20, compare to other pandemics and the Flu.

After perhaps you gain understanding of the numbers without media bias of any sort, I would then look up a study done by the CDC on the effectiveness of Facemasks against the spread of virus that was published in 2018. It's very interesting...but no doubt that face masks are common sense in these times.

Through using unbiased sources and research, I have come to my own conclusion. I suggest all of you do the same rather than post biased links that don't tell the whole story.

The one flaw in all of this is that you believe you are wise enough, informed enough and versed enough to even draw a reasonable conclusion.

+1. Stupid people think they are the smartest people in the world. 450,000 deaths in the US alone is still not enough for these dummies to understand the risk associated with COVID. What don’t these dummies understand?

How do you know which people are stupid and which are not? Should we appoint an expert to decide? And should that expert be able to dictate how everyone else lives their life, imprisoning them in their home if the expert dcides it is ncessary? How should we decide on who the expert should be? Or should it just be someone that agrees with you?

No, stupid people believe everything they hear on the news, social media and from corrupt politicians and corporations that benefit the most from this Pandemic. Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and Media have profited more in 2020 than almost any other type of business, well, other than those making vaccines that it is...

Smart people tend to think critically and outside the box. They will research on there own using information from the CDC and read published studies on the subject from medical journals. That is what smart person does.

The death toll is actually half of what you posted by the way. I could go on and on with research that shows what it really is but I digress. Without googling, I am sure you have no idea how death certificates are filled out, how many, or what for that matter, ICD codes are placed on a death certificate or in what order they are placed in. You probably also don't know the difference in viral load PCR tests used Pre and Post Jan. 21st. I'm sure the same goes for Excess Deaths and the average increase in deaths year after year. You probably don't even realize that the population grows every year which, breaking news, amounts to more deaths every year.

What you do is look at Facebook, Twitter or Cable news and see a number and think, they said it, so it must be true.

Oh, and by the way, before one of you posters brings politics into this, I am a registered Democrat who voted for Joe Biden.

Oh, what about soccer? Where are all those mass outbreaks from soccer tournaments around the country? That's right, there are none.

I take zero issue with Virginia policies put in place at games and practices. I actually think they are spectacular and well suited. Parents and players wear masks and only one spectator per player. All for it. What I am not for is requiring players to wear masks while playing. There is ZERO evidence that it is needed. None. I think again VA has it right. If a parent is worried about it, they can tell the kid to wear a mask while playing. In the games/tournaments I have gone to, I have seen maybe one player per team wearing a mask while playing. I'm guessing some if these posters are here in this thread. Let me make something clear. You people are the minority and because of your selfishness, you are ruining sports for our youth. I ask you to please refrain from imposing your will on clubs and teams when you only represent 1 out 10 players. Also curious to know how many of you are in teachers' unions.

Everyone talks big and is either pessimistic a non-believer until it hits them or their love ones.

So what are you suggesting? That the subjective experience of someone losing a loved one - which I agree is an emotional experience which is highly likely to cloud someone's judgment - is superior to a dispassionate and scientific analysis of the data?

I completely believe in CoVid but I know the facts are hidden to create and drive fear, you as an example. I also have known many infected, some have passed (all above the age of 65), and others hospitalized. It does not however change the facts that the CDC publishes which is available to each and every person. Please stop letting the Facebook, Twitter, and Cable News Networks running your lives.

Well said.

One of the biggest problems is that all the lies and twisting of statistics, some of which might conceivably even have been done from noble motives ("we have to scare people by exaggerating the danger in order to save lives"), has unsurprisingly left a large number of people doubting everything they are told and dismissing the whole thing as a hoax.

The actual truth is now extremely difficult to ascertain with any degree of certainty because it has been thoroughly obfuscated. And however noble (but misguided) the motives of some of the obfuscators might have been, there are plenty of them whose motives do not appear in the least noble.

And if the statistics about the danger posed by the disease itself are distorted, those about the efficacy of masks and lockdowns are even more so.

I've done my own research as far as I can, but I cannot be certain of my own conclusions even though I have read many of the source studies and my math is good enough to make sense of, and spot at least some of the flaws where they exist in, the statistical calculations. I'm betting that the overwhelming majority of people on this board cannot honestly make either of those claims, still less both. Nevertheless I am still a "victim" of the internet and cannot know whether I have read the "right" studies, or all the studies, or just those to which I have been directed whether by a search engine or a web-site and I can only guess as to the biases and motivations of the people doing the directing. And anybody who thinks they know anything for certain - either way - is being over confident.

But what I do know is that "rule by expert" - a government which decides it knows better than everyone else and forces its will upon people - is extremely dangerous. And a government which (in addition to acting as our master instead of our servant) in cahoots with large corporations, attempts to suppress debate and silence critics is fascism pure and simple.

Sooooo, you believe the facts are all hidden and yet YOU have all the facts. Got it.

This might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read recently. So the kid who wears a mask at practice and games is the selfish one? The main purpose of mask wearing is to protect others. Being cautious helps others, and I’m failing to see how it hurts other people. I’m sure there are people out there doings things that that make you look cautious. To them, you are probably selfish I guess?

^^ I'm selfish for wearing my seatbelt because it only saves me. LOL

But seriously the whining over wearing a mask during sports is laughable. All thee people are like "Covid isn't dangerous but wearing a mask will send kids into immediate asphyxiation."

+1. This is so funny but extremely true. Also, wearing a mask is child abuse but restraining a child into a child or baby seat is fine.

Follow the science. But please keep the schools closed. Keep laughing. Lockdowns, not masks, are child abuse.

This is a soccer forum. Kids are out playing soccer, albeit in a mask. That hardly sounds like a lockdown to me.

Please, someone post a link to an actual outbreak due to soccer functions in the DMV over the last year that actually proves the spread of CoVid??? I know of cases inside teams, both mine and others, but it has always been found to relate to the household.

The only one that comes close was the Potomac incident but that was found to be not related to soccer. None of there teammates were infected either.

At Bethesda Cup one girl was found infected, again not soccer related, and they canceled the boys tournament.

So it's been a year, and not a single problem with spread within a teams or tournaments nationwide. Yet some of you push for wearing masks while playing. I find your opinions and how you push 5% minoirty opinions on everyone. Please, please, please realize you represent an extremely small population of outdoor sports parents. The data and evidence does not back you up.

"While exercise is key to maintaining good health, adding a mask presents a slew of safety concerns. For starters, the face covering could restrict your air flow, says Lana V. Ivanitskaya, Ph.D., industrial-organizational psychologist and professor in the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University. “Mask tolerance is a bigger issue than people realize, especially for people with reduced lung function,” she says. “Physical exertion will make an otherwise tolerable mask intolerable” by causing breathing difficulty.

What's more, masks become wet when you wear them. This further adds to the discomfort by triggering sweat and nasal secretions—which will especially bother younger kids. Wet masks may also be less effective than dry masks in reducing airborne transmission of COVID-19.

And here's yet another issue: Wearing a mask can make people become fatigued faster than normal. “A mask will restrict airflow in and out of the mouth and nose, creating a situation where oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange are compromised,” says Michael Figueroa, EdD, a professor and graduate director of kinesiology at William Paterson University of New Jersey. He explains that during physical activity, the body’s carbon dioxide levels rise, resulting in faster breathing and increased heart rate. The mask might trap some of this carbon dioxide inside. While levels are too low to cause poisoning, they could lead to fatigue."

You sourced a Psychologist? I hope you realized Psychologists don’t NOT medical doctors and they don’t go through medical schools. Your second source is a kinesiologist??? This is beyond funny.

^ There were thousands of MSI kids (Rec, Select & Travel) that played & practiced soccer while constantly wearing masks. No one passed out or died from lack of oxygen. Stop pushing fake medical information.
