Correct on masks. Numerous clubs have stated since this came out Friday that they will not play in MoCo. There's shuffling going on behind behind the scenes now. Soccerplex is being abandoned en masses. Same games will happen, same kids, just different counties. MSI was going to require masks anyways. MoCo just loses all the revenue from all the visiting teams on food, hotels, etc. Zero difference on COVID transmission no matter what you think of kids playing sports in masks because, like I said, the same kids are still playing maskless, just in all the surrounding counties, then coming back home. The exposures still happen. A policy like this doesn't work when you are on an island from the surrounding jurisdictions. Just costs you revenue and significant frustration.

hasn't it been proven that the rate of transmission is extremely low when playing soccer outside? Dumb decision, spectators should be the only ones with masks on.

Doesn't define the "certain" sports but links to an AAP document that doesn't list soccer in the examples. I guess it will come down to how it is interpreted, but they very intentionally changed it for a reason. Doesn't look good. Hope I am wrong and missing something.

Won't affect MSI since they already require, but a huge blow to travel home games and tournaments, and a death sentence to Soccerplex.

Lots of kids are wearing masks while playing soccer now. Hasn’t really been an issue, even in travel games. I think MCPS will probably require masks for high school sports when they start up as well. The kids seem to have adjusted to this pretty easily.

The problem is people will not come here to play. The VA teams are not wearing masks. Other MD counties are not. In the fall, until MoCo changed the rule nobody would play here. All travel club games were held out of the county including home games. I have not seen any travel games with kids in masks other than a handful voluntarily. I have never seen a VA travel team kid wear a mask in a game, always as of the end of November.

I live in VA and have three kids who play travel. We played at the soccerplex twice in the beginning of the fall season. EVeryone wore masks and it wasn't an issue. At least three or more kids on each one of my kids's teams voluntarily wear masks at games and most kids do during practice. I don't think anyone would have any issue with this.

We played a "home game" in Howard County against a PA team this past weekend. The county has no idea what they are doing. None

CDC said the kids can wear masks playing soccer and the county is very conservative; therefore, they continue to requires masks. I don't care either way, but some parents do. I don't think it really effects performance on the field.

no, all these parents who enjoy having their kids doing something besides sitting on tik tok and starring at a computer screen all day. most of my daughters team have perfect grades and high test scores because of the commitment and the standard their coaches hold them to.

What kind of a dumb ass comment is this based on the previous post. Not a single post in this thread has been about college soccer. You are a moron.

Due to Dr. Gayles cancelling MCPS Football last week and the protests that followed, the county council said today that was a mistake and they they will relook at their sports policy on Friday. "according to council post - "new proposal that will be shared in the coming days to treat sports equitably while ensuring that players thave testing & public health guidance to stay safe while participating in sports." No idea what that means.

This is a good point. I noticed that all MSI games in NCSL are in VA or other locations outside of MoCo. I’m sure the same for EDP and ECNL games as well. So the only games played at the Soccerplex will be MSI Classic and Recreation.

Why didn't they look at the policy in the first place? They continue to buckle under pressure because they have no real basis for restrictions.

Bethesda Cup is likely going to be moved to Howard County as well. Supposedly multiple clubs contacted Bethesda and wanted to withdraw after the announcement Friday.

This is just "here say" but I'm willing to bet it is true. Same thing happened in the fall. Nobody wants to play in Montgomery County due to having there kids play in masks.

You can think what you want but we are the minority. Other than a couple counties in Pennsylvania, MoCo is the only one with this Policy. Even Massachusetts have rescinded it's youth sports mask policy.

Why are you all listening to government? It's all soft power.
