Anyone pulling their kid from YY for this hybrid fiasco

YY's admin coffee tomorrow is going to be a $hi+$h0w

What of it? What will improve when some parents complain? Let me guess, zip. What has ever changed at YY as a result of parents' complaining?

Admins rest on the laurels of their long waitlist at all times. Each family is eminently replaceable. The new Chinese teachers learn that one fast, and act accordingly.

Ok now I'm happy to be doing all distance learning because in person sounds like a hot mess. Or are they doing that so the virtual only families don't feel left out of the party 🤔

Interesting! I don't have that impression so I guess it's good that each family can make a decision based on what works best for them.

What did you decide to do and how did the admin coffee today influence your decision?

We opted for in person and I don't plan to change. Sounds like there's still info to come but a lot of the questions we had about protocols and teaching teams were answered.

There was at least one, if not two, later occasions where the school told parents they could change their preference by a certain date (as I recall the deadline was late December) because the cohorts were being finalized. They specifically pointed out that it would be easier to change from hybrid to DL than it would be to change from DL to hybrid (which makes sense).

I'm not casting blame on the parents who are upset, nor am I suggesting that YY has handled everything perfectly this last year. I am just pointing out additional facts that haven't been mentioned yet.

Them why do parents feel blindsided? Why do they say there is a lack of transparency?

Not all parents feel this way. For those that do, who knows why they feel that way? Maybe they didn't read all of the emails. Maybe they didn't attend the zoom meetings. Maybe they didn't fill out all of the surveys. It's a lot to stay on top off and I know there are times when I've skimmed an email and missed information. Again, I'm not saying that YY has done everything exactly right, but I also can't explain why parents are confused.

Plus one. It was very clear to me and all of the other Yu Ying parents I'm friends with when they sent the last survey that if you opt in to hybrid you could opt out later, but that if you opt out now no guarantees to opt in later. It was also communicated that they hoped to start in January so while that is (understandably) delayed by a month, it was clear you were making a decision in October that wouldn't come into play months later. They also went out of their way to find out what kids were poddiing together and to build a schedule that could accommodate that and siblings. I'm actually quite impressed they were able to get this all together as I had counted out going back in-person at all this year.

Homeschool for 5 months until I move to JKLM or Moco or Arlington. I want to stay in private. Im worried if I leave will I be blacklisted from other charters. So I might even stay.

WTH does that even mean? You have no clue how the system operates. Are you sure Q isn't going to help you our?

Yes, it is such an odd statement and shows such a lack of understanding I guess I'm not surprised OP was so easily confused about the hybrid plan.

Can you please post your thorough and college understanding of the hybrid plan on managebac for the many parents who are confused and have questions?

Just unenrolled. I was getting sick of filling out those absence forms.

What absence forms? You only fill out a form when your child is sick or there is a reason they are not attending virtual school. PP clearly does not attend YY.

Sheesh, don't your admins answer parents' questions? Sounds like they don't. Charter communities need to win the right to organize PTAs bigtime.

Why do you think charters can’t have PTOs? Many do. I think some opt to not pay the fees to belong to the national PTA organization, but have legally registered PTOs nonetheless.

Aren't charters restricted to PAs (parent associations). Serious question.

Uh... Did you know there's a YY online attendance form?

Online Attendance Form
Please fill out this form if your student is going to be absent, tardy, travelling, change of afternoon pick up, etc.
