According to this article a decision is expected on Saturday. |
What an amazing spiiinnnn. The only person who says a decision is expected tomorrow is Liz Davis while DCPS holding the line for Monday opening with canned statement. Me thinks Liz Davis knows the arbiter is not gonna delay the opening thus Saturday meeting to vote for action. And she backtracks publicly: “I think the DCPS team wanted to give the impression that all we’re interested in is shutting down the system,” This has been the goal since November. Should be an interesting zoom meeting. lol |
Thx for the info. The split in that vote could be very telling. I absolutely believe there are many that want to return, but, with their consistent fight, WTU leadership is sure acting like they know what the majority of the membership wants. Hopefully that leadership is out of touch. |
Four kids at three schools, not once asked if we wanted a seat. My oldest’s best friend got a call saying that because of a survey from summer their school has to fill 40% and they are calling basically begging her to come back. He has an IEP but actually one of the few thriving so he doesn’t want to come in. It seems like a vastly different experience for folks. |
To me this looks like DCPS had a bad plan. Can’t move forward without teachers? What about a compromise? Dcps should just fix the violations over the weekend. Also these should be open to the public in real time. |
I have no doubt that DCPS is an inefficient government organization, but at this point it’s all on the teachers. They fought in August when community spread was so much lower and the weather was nice. Same in November. Now this. There’s no compromising with the teachers. DC needs to play hardball and cancel all first and second vaccine appointments for teachers. The ones that have taken their first shots can start over in a few months at their regular place in line like everyone else |
This *is* the compromise. WTU literally signed an agreement to return (the MOA). |
I don’t think the second dose of the vaccine works like that. |
It does. For one of the two mRNA vaccines, the fda approval allows up to 6 weeks vs the recommended 3. If they get beyond that then they would just start they two vaccine course over, but at a later time this summer when they wouldn’t be competing with our first responders and other prioritized people |
I think they need to be vaccinating as many people as possible as fast as possible. Have people restart the series is asinine. It’s a wasted dose. I’m not sure who you would be hurting by taking it away from teachers. People over 65? This board has already decided they shouldn’t be a priority. Maybe you want parents to get it first. I guess they can be a priority. DC’s next priority is obese people. Should we skip over them if they are teachers too? 1000% you are a troll. What will you troll about after Monday? |
Not a troll at all. Teachers were moved ahead based on a condition (in person education) that may go away. If so, then the normal public health priorities should take over. If DC has decided that’s the obese, so be it. How the public priorities are set is a completely separate conversation. |
Who has made your believe it is going away? Anonymous fear mongering on this forum? This echo chamber. Barring a snow day, school is OPENING ON MONDAY. |
From the other thread, it sounds like there’s a union vote this afternoon. Personally I’m still hoping in person happens after the snow and no more extreme measures are necessary, but I think they need to be available |
This. It's crazy that WTU teachers are still getting their entire paycheck and benefits while parents are forced to either do a big part of the teacher's job for them or pay to outsource the teacher's job to a private in-person provider. No teacher is doing 100% of their job remotely. If we're going to keep distance learning, then it would be in the best interest of the students to hire teachers in lower cost areas so we can pay them less. Then give part of the per pupil funding to parents to outsource in-person childcare, tutoring, and pods. Or just give up on distance learning and give parents a larger portion of the per pupil funding so they can outsource education completely to private providers. I guarantee that businesses would crop up to provide cost effective pods etc. But really just reopen schools and assign teachers back to work. |
Can we stop saying WTU teachers? As far as I know charter teachers are also getting full paychecks. |
