tell it to your union rep

For some reason Kimberly Adams thinks she represents you. Because someone joined her union and voted for her. Then she mad big news getting vaccinated. Does she even teach BTW? If she doesn’t represent you, for the love of God choose someone else. And no, saying: she doesn’t represent me, but I’m being peer pressured into not contradicting her doesn’t make you anything but a coward. Put up. Or STFU.

What, exactly, do you want someone who is not an FEA member to do? I cannot contact her to disagree, as I am not a member of FEA.

Every time I get a survey or my admin asks, I say I’m ready to go back as soon as I’m vaccinated, but that I’ll go back before it I have to. I don’t have time or energy or desire to fight a few super vocal people on either side. It’s also not my job to. I personally don’t really care where I teach, I’ll do it anywhere the best I can.

I too am a Union member (ALPA). A few years ago we elected a new rep who I disagreed with on almost every issue. I felt the things he was pushing for did not represent myself or my fellow union members.

So even though I hate the work I ran against him and won.

It would have been easy to sit back and let it slide, but I refused to allow my profession be denigrated by this guy so I did what needed to be done to fix it.

It’s pretty sad that a bunch of teachers who are supposed to be educating students about things like peer pressure, civics, and self worth are unable to understand this.

I will write some letters, but I can barely get grading and lesson planning done right now. I need to stop coming here.

I didn’t want to be part of a union for God’s sake. And now I have to organize a union to combat a pretend union? I so don’t have the time or energy for this. I hear you. She needs to STFU. i just can’t do this signature gathering letter writing campaign thing. I am depressed enough as it is.

Well then congrats. Kimberly Adam’s speaks for you in most parents minds.

Only the misinformed parents tho.

There are high risk groups not getting vaccinated, there are front facing employees of various industries not getting vaccinated, there are people aged 75+ that are not getting vaccinated because there aren't enough vaccines.

Everyone that absolutely need the vaccine *right now* because of those factors should be getting the vaccine right now. Not teachers that are distance learning and not for future needs of *possible* in person teaching who knows how far down the line that the can keeps getting kicked down.

Everyone working at in person jobs should be getting vaccinated not the maybe I'll be working in person later people.

Great idea. I am sure you now favor pausing the return since INOVA canceled the teacher appointments.

Return to School has never been contingent on vaccinated teachers.

Stop the over the top drama. And quite frankly, I have no faith in the teachers, administrators, school board, or superintendent doing right by the students anytime soon. This whole debacle is due to the jobs program mentality not the educating children.

You hardly have to be anti-labor or a conservative to believe that, if teachers won't be in person after being vaccinated, there is no need for them to get priority. If they are working remotely, why shouldn't they wait their turn like most other workers who have been able to work remotely?

Obviously, if a teacher qualifies because of their age or preexisting condition, they shouldn't be disqualified from receiving a vaccine because they are a teacher. But being a teacher itself shouldn't entitle them to priority if they aren't in person.

No one has guaranteed teachers either continued DL or a vaccine. At least not where I live. The district refuses to say vaccination is required to return, but it also refuses to say that teachers can be forced to return unvaccinated.

Some of the public must be a joy to date! “Don’t order dinner if you’re not going to put out!

The appropriate meal related analogy would be don't get the free Veterans Day meal if you aren't a veteran.

Vaccine priority is being given to certain front line essential workers who face exposure risks from their job. If teachers are teaching in-person, it makes sense to include them in that priority group. If they are going to still be working from home, it is absurd to give healthy 20 and 30 year old teachers the vaccine ahead of significantly older people and those with health-related risks.

I wish it weren’t this way, but I can say with absolute authority the entire RTS plan is now scrapped due to this vaccine news.

+10000

How is it even controversial to say that only teachers working in person (or those who will return in the near term) should be prioritized for vaccines? Any teacher working from home should of course be in line with every other person working from home. If a teacher with no plans to return full time took a vaccine away from the 60 yr old grocery worker who’s been in person this whole time, that would be a serious failure.

I teach my subject. That’s all I want to do. I am very, very good at what I do. I have no aspirations of leadership, administration, or union affiliation. That is nothing to shame me for. I am doing the job I was hired to do—teaching xyz courses to high schoolers. Those who care more than I do about where those courses are taught are fighting the fight.

No, it was contingent on health metrics. Which are still in the toilet, incidentally. Good luck to anyone trying to sell that it's safe to go back with the current numbers and unvaccinated staff.

Good thing they added that nebulous subjective metric...

Maybe it’s the universe balancing itself out. OpenFCPS has Dr.Gloria who, in advocating for opening schools, helps keep them closed, and the FEA has this Kim woman who does the reverse.

Fine, that’s your prerogative.

However you no longer get to say “FEA doesn't speak for me”, because they do and you refuse to do anything to change that.
