As said above, normalizing excluding the parents creates fertile ground for manipulation.
Not following explicit instructions from the club shows poor judgment at minimum and is grounds to terminate the coach. |
No one is perfect. That said, lame sorry excuses like yours perpetuate the problem. It’s easy to infer you do not do a good job at parenting. |
| Based on responses, a smart coach will protect themselves and include a parent on all texts back and forth with kids under the age of 18. Protects the coach, the club, and the kid. |
All coaches under US soccer and state organizations are required to do this (actually beyond 18 if the athlete is still playing). |
You are an idiot. One false accusation and you are toast Never drive or be alone 1 on 1 and always include a parent on a text. |

Parents are taught to watch for coaches that take a special interest in their kid. Grooming |
Agree with the driving or otherwise being alone 1 on 1 with a kid, but texting is self-protective against false accusations. Unlike a phone call or 1 on 1 conversation, where a kid might claim a coach said something he or she didn't actually say, with texts there's a written record of the entire communication. |
Texts are misinterpreted all of the time. Why take a chance? |
Texts can be deleted |
yes and no, they can be deleted from parents, but if investigators ever need them, they can get them |

For those who don't think this happens at all levels of sports and unless you live under a rock and didn't hear about this

US gymnastics is a bastion of grooming populated by the awful people- shocking, truly a shocking revelation |
Yes, texting turns into great evidence, but usually that is after the fact. It is a bad idea to have players text 1v1 without including the parents. Once the texts start to be hidden it is going to be to late soon. |
