| OP, by the end of 9th grade my friends and I had already made most decisions re: what behavior we thought was acceptible. Drinking? Heavy Drinking or just a rare event? Pot? The time to make these decisions, for us, was Jr High. So your post about drinking happening in MS is not a surprise. I don't know if this will surprise you but I'm speaking about a W school in the 1970s |
| Not the norm these days |
Yes, it is. Half the kids at our son's W MS were drinking regularly in the 8th grade. We know this because of discussions with parents. Girls are making beer pong tables with pretty colors and they are playing this game every weekend. You are kidding yourselves. Other things are happening too, like weed and prescription pills. But, drinking is as popular as it ever as and it is happening younger and younger. |
50% of 12 and 13 year olds? No, it just isn't. How big is this school? |
| My DS, now in HS, reported that he knew kids were drinking in MS. There was also a ton of vaping. Some of them had their vape pens purchased for them by their parents. Public "good" school. |
+100 Were your sons in middle school recently? It just isn’t the norm. There is nothing you can say to convince me. It happens in very small numbers. |
Vaping is more common. Drinking just isn’t. Many MS students know *someone* who drinks, but it’s usually the same handful of students doing it. |
Good grief. It's not rare, you're just out of touch or in denial now. |
You say "half" -- so we aren't kidding ourselves. We are the other half, I guess. So sorry you are dealing with this so young. It is a long haul avoiding an arrest or worse until 21. |
