How do I get my family to stop sending unwanted gifts?

Not OP, but we really need to get out of the mentality that isn't NBD to keep buying junk and imposing it on others. Climate change is real. Some of this is junk that absolutely nobody wants. Agree with you. The whole "donation" option has given people an faux ethical excuse to keep up the whole excessive consumption cycle and continue destroying the earth.

Just need to bump this thread... in-laws came by and dropped of a bunch of junk. Like seriously, stuff that came out a junk drawer, china made crap, etc. etc.

agree with 1/2 15:35 that you can't keep parroting "just donate" because they created a problem for me and donation places don't want this garbage so I can't create a problem for them and keep this stupid cycle going. Everything went into the trash.

I just fear there will be more as they are downsizing...such a pain.

My MIL is the same way. Every time she comes over, bags and bags of junk for the kids...including stuff her friends don't want. Sometimes it's huge stuff like a pink infant stroller (I have sons, we have a stroller, and it was an infant stroller that was too small for them).
