I wish they would have cast a better Daphne. She’s too plain.

I love seeing Nicola from Derry Girls!

+1 to this, but not so much because of her looks. She seems mismatched to the Duke. Unlike Outlander where Clair and Jamie seemed matched, Daphne seems more like a girl, rather than a woman. I didn't read the books though so maybe this is how the character is supposed to be.

Daphne is plain and girlish in the books though. I haven't seen the show yet but the Duke is supposed to be way out of her league in every way possible (socially, financially, even looks wise). That's why they become friends first, because neither assumes there will ever be anything between them, and it will be mutually beneficial, He doesn't want to get married at all and she's having a hard time finding a husband. All the men look at her like a "little sister/friend" type. So she will repel husband hunters for him and his interest in her will make her more valuable to other men.

I think she certainly is pretty, though I agree she seems young. In terms of personality, she seems sort of boring and lacking substance at first, but it quickly becomes clear there is much more to her.

I adore Eloise. She is my favorite character and very like the book.

I am ashamed to say that I binged watched the entire series yesterday. It is a nice/silly fun distraction for the holidays and Daphne and Simon do have a lot of chemistry! As I found out today, each book is focused on one of the Brigeryon's kids, but I do hope they continue to develop the plot between Daphne and Simon. Some VERY hot scenes between them.

Just finished all 8- hoping the bee scene at the end indicates there will be a season 2. I actually like the way the brought in Marina the way they did assuming the story continues (in another season) to follow the book series.

Omg I love the chemistry between the two leads. And I love how even though Eloise’s lack of desire to get married comes across as strong, Daphne’s desire fir marriage and children does not seem weak. Yay for not shaming choices.

Spider: I do wish that at some point daphne had apologized for, um, not stopping, if you know what I mean. That seemed super off to me.

That’s not rape. I read the Vox article, and I found it troubling to equate the scene with rape.

And, the whole storyline is irrational.

“I love you so deeply, but I won’t sleep with you anymore.” Riiiiiiiight.

IDK, wouldn't we consider it a type of rape now in 2020 if a woman manipulated a man into impregnating her against his wishes?

Trapping a man with a pregnancy is NOT the same as rape. He wasn’t forced to have sex. And, in 2020, men can opt for a condom.

The scene was just yet another ridiculous piece of the weak, unbelievable story. It was less disturbing than the pulling out scenes.

She deliberately gets him drunk in order to "take advantage" of him and, iirc, he even tells her during the act that he doesn't want to come in her and she refuses to let him pull out.

If a man did that to a woman, it would be rape.

None of that happens in the Netflix series.

How do they portray it? I haven't seen the series yet.

He initiates, they quickly hop into bed, she gets on top, he literally kicks back with a big grin obviously enjoying it, some heavy thrusting and then he quietly mumbles wait but finishes inside. Then she quickly hops off and starts a fight for him lying to her.

Not rape at all.

Oh my gosh you’re right. For some reason I remember him saying “no” but he just said “wait” as he was coming. And I don’t think he drank any more that night than he did any other.

I love the flowers and costumes. I'm wondering what they spent on this.

It did seem very lavish. Which of course I loved. Nice little escape right now.

I binged to Episode 6 last night and I love it. I LOVE the casting. I wouldn’t call it color blind...it seemed very color aware and intentionally inclusive.

Agree 100%

Apparently I’m the only one, but was really looking forward to this series and am super disappointed. I loved Downton Abbey and Belgravia and with all the buzz around Bridgerton was hoping/expecting something similar but this just seems like a trashy harlequin romance novel.

I agree. It's just too over the top. Love the costumes though. Must have cost big $$$$.

It is a romance novel, adapted for the screen. I found Downtown Abey incredibly dull so to each their own.

This is NOT Jane Austen and instead, based on some well-written steamy Regency romance. The production was well-done because it's filmed like a slightly unbelievable, steamy, romantic Regency. IMO it was great fun because I got what I got from the books-- diversion, romance, some sexy scenes and His Grace, the Duke of McSteamy.
My ONLY quibble was the bumbling awkward explanation of diverse casting-- the Duke commanded that role, as did the other actors, and there's no reason to need explain-- simply reimagine it.

Pp here and of course to each their own and clearly there’s a large fan base for it, but my complaint is that so many teasers drew parallels to/equated it to the “new Downton Abbey” which I think is pretty far off base.
