Coming to terms that dd might not get in anywhere.

Yes. Even if it is
by virtue of small
class
size 27 kids in K in moco is
insane. Even the smartest of the smart might have a difficult time.

After reading everyone's comments about MCPS, I had to write. My child had an amazing experience at Somerset ES. We have been thrilled with the teachers, class size, families, and academics. We decided to do private for 6th grade since I am nervous about the middle school experience. But as far as our elementary experience, I'm not sure you can get better than Somerset. (I've heard there are many MCPS schools of this caliber as well..obviously, not all, so you must do your homework.)

My child was extremely well prepared for private. (In particular, I think the math curriculum is better than the equivalent private curriculum (for elementary school)).

Do not worry about not getting into a top private. I believe you can have a wonderful elementary school experience in public school. (I also believe you can have a wonderful middle/high school experience as well...especially around here.)

Thanks PP. our MCPS school is fair. Not the best but not the worst. Looks like that is where they are headed. Maybe we should move and buy a house in Bethesda instead of Silver spring/takoma park.

OP I was the one that ask what happened but our family was not in the hunt this year. I was just so hoping you got good news since you were so worried. I am so glad you were not shut out but wish you had more than your last choice option. I hope it turns out to be a great match in the end. We were so worried last year having applied to only one school but it worked out and I was hoping the same for your first choice. Let us know next fall that your child is happy.
