What I think is funny is that it’s a major international airport and I find it to be VERY difficult for non native speakers to say correctly even with practice

FFS. I have said the names of international airports like Shanghai Pudong, Soekarno Baoan, and Chengdu Shuangliu and people understood me. If you want a simpler name than John Foster Dulles, perhaps you should fly into Wonsan Kalma airport and stay there.

I've actually never heard anyone pronounce Dulles incorrectly. I mean it's said like it's written.

Why not name it "George Washington International Airport"?

because if they had built that in Montgomery County, it would have taken more business away from BWI Marshall.

Well considering that Reagan is named Washington National Ronald Reagan airport, it would be duplicative.

Everyone still calls it National.

Anonymous wrote:OMG why we would we call it Washington DC International? You don't think it would be confusing to have 3 local airports called, National, Washington DC, and Baltimore Washington? That's a hellish level of confusion.

But fine. If we have to rename it, let's call it the Marion Barry Worldwide Speedway.

Right? Washington National, Washington International, and Baltimore-Washington International. Sounds like a good plan.

Also, I have never encountered anyone who can't say "Dulles."

Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

I think there's already enough overlap without removing the only word that distinguishes Dulles.

They need to make a fourth airport down near fort Belvoir. To relieve the traffic at the other three airports. This international airport, needs to be called, Terry McAuliffe international airport.

Yes, marks you as from somewhere else if you call it Reagan. It's always National to me.
