Oh god seriously?!? I’m 37 and never heard this, but I’m also pretty naive.

Can you guys corroborate this?

It's "whack" not "get"

Joshua is a jewish name in my eyes. Since you're not Jewish, I guess you need to use Peter.

Every Joshua I have known has been Christian.

Both are fine. Not homeruns, but nothing your son will be ashamed of in the future.

The deciing factor for me would be middle and last names, and possibly embarrassing initials.

Peter by a mile.

Josh- fun loving kayaking bro who majored in Econ and is working as ski instructor while trying to decide to whether to go to law school

Peter - serious classics major who plays the oboe and interns at a think tank

I like both names, very different vibe

What’s a “home run” name in your book?

Peter just sounds so wimpy to me

A friend of mine named her son Peter because there have been lots of successful people with that name, or a variation of it, from all over the world.

I agree with the "different vibe" person above, though. So I guess it would depend on your preferred vibe

Huh. All the Joshuas I know are fundie Christian.

OP here.

I have no vibe. We are a pretty generic, white family. I’d like for the name to be “strong” and last from childhood to adulthood, and not make a statement.

I have only seen this rhyme on this site.

— another 36 year who’s never heard this in my life — I grew up in NY, CA and IL.

Neither Peter or Joshua are strong names

Love Peter, like Joshua. Peter is stronger. Would Leo work with the last name?
