Ice cream at 6 months

Anonymous
Does anyone who posted on here have multiple children? My 16 month old had cake today. Because my 3 and 8 year olds got some, and he knew it, and it clearly isn't better for him to watch them eat it and feel deprived. And I guess you could say never have treats, but if I never gave an 8 year old treats, DCUM would tell me an eating disorder is imminent.

I mean, did she give her baby a taste of ice cream or did she give her a bowl full?

This. We started at 4.5 months at my pediatrician's encouragement. 6 out of 8 allergens including peanuts done by 6 months. At 8 months, she's had over 70 different foods including... a taste of ice cream.

I've been kind of shocked parents don't know you are supposed to be doing this. New research backs it up.

Because advice changes. I would be willing to bet that if you have a second or third child the feeding advice will be very different.

I’m not disputing that advice changes but the above has been the advice for at least 4 years.

You *can* begin then. The advice is not that you are "supposed to" begin then, just that you can.

Especially for families without any history of food allergies, there's nothing wrong with waiting until 6-months. Baby doesn't necessarily need complementary foods until 6-months, and it may be easier on the family to do baby-led weaning at that time as opposed to starting earlier.
