Ice cream at 6 months

Not everyone is as educated as you are on what babies should eat. They probably thought since ice cream is soft it's fine.

Ice cream is fine. I guarantee if you asked your ped if a taste of ice cream was ok they would laugh.

Eh, I gave mine a lick of a cone around that age. It was fine.

A few months later we found out she has an egg allergy so I felt guilty about not thinking through giving her the lick of ice cream, but thankfully it didn’t cause a reaction.

I think it's fine to give them a taste. Honestly, in the long run, I think it's more harmful to go out for ice cream with your baby and refuse to give them any, if they want some. I think that sends some weird food messages.

I wouldn't give a 6-month-old a bowl/cone of ice cream, but then again a 6-month-old can't even really hold a bowl of ice cream and probably can't eat that much ice cream anyway.

Science is moving toward solids as early as 4 months if the child is otherwise ready. It helps prevent allergies.

Sugar addiction already. Baby will be on soda by age one.

Isn't that how you normally learn of food allergies: you feed them something and then they break out in a rash?

We found out our kid had an egg allergy because we have him scrambled eggs. I don't feel guilty giving him eggs before I knew he had an allergy.

And at that rate, crack by age 2.

Solids at 4 months isn't the worst thing.

I wouldn't do icecream at that age, but I'm all about trying to avoid processed food and junk as long as possible.

Did the child survive?

Please. People put soda in baby bottles. Kids are taught to be obese from birth. I feel sorry for those kids. Never had a chance.

This. We started at 4.5 months at my pediatrician's encouragement. 6 out of 8 allergens including peanuts done by 6 months. At 8 months, she's had over 70 different foods including... a taste of ice cream.

I've been kind of shocked parents don't know you are supposed to be doing this. New research backs it up.

Because advice changes. I would be willing to bet that if you have a second or third child the feeding advice will be very different.
