FCPS and Blackboard reported to be hacked by MAZE?

+1. And it’s like a Trump. Every time Brabrand and Gatehouse lie and blame Verizon or SBTs or teachers instead of owning a problem, the public trusts them less. I’ve stopped trust anything they say.

But SBTs or teachers didn’t X, so the system crashed

No hybrid because health metrics

Verizon is having outages.

I have a lot of sympathy for people trying hard during a pandemic. I have no sympathy for this CYA BS. If we are going to have problems, at least tell the truth. You, know, like the students are supposed to.

“FCPS said it has not notified staff because it’s investigating the attack.”

Not the right move.

So what exactly would an employee do? Seriously. What would knowing that there was a hack that MIGHT have access to employee info?

Immediately change your password for one. Keeping it secret hoping no one finds out is stupid AF.

No one is checking their credit reports regularly. So much easier to steal their identify than an adult’s. Not to mention the disciplinary info that was already leaked. Why is no one upset about that? Teacher’s salaries are a matter of public record. I could get the entire school systems salary info if I truly wanted it.

We’ve never had to provide our kids SS numbers to the school. What are you talking about?

+1 True.

Maybe I’m naive and my kids don’t have any confidential medical issues other than peanut allergy and asthma but what other info could hackers get about our children. We have iphones and Facebook, so I imagine their pics are already out there. And the yearbook pics are Staged-looking and honestly doesn’t really look like them anymore.

They asked for my child's social

$5 says we learn that Brabrand had his password written down and visible during a townhall or taped message— or something similarly stupid.

Not a matter of getting a break. It's just plain incompetence.

Go away with your indignation. These are incredibly sophisticated cyber criminals. This wasn’t a hack by some high school kids. Target was hacked a couple of years ago. Are you still shopping there? I bet you are. They just posted a record-breaking quarter.

Maze has hacked Xerox, Chubb Insurance, Westech International, Cognizant...

So there was no issue with Verizon today? It was a cover for the ransomware attack?

And can we please, for one thread, not talk about President Trump. TIA

Verizon confirmed there was no issue with a Verizon.

And fine. Call FCPS the school that cried wolf.

But apparently didn’t hack LCPS, APS, DCPS, MCPS, PGCS, PWCS... they went for the low hanging fruit.

Yes, I know of several other major companies that were recently hacked by these people. They're criminals. What is the FBI doing about them?

most of the groups aren't US based- not much they can do
