| Thank you for making my point. Neither is a top 50 nationally nor globally. Full stop. |
What is the criteria? Why would UC Berkeley and UW rank so high, and UVA so low? That seems odd. |
Because no one cares about uva outside of va. |
Guess the 29,000 out-of-state applicants to UVA this year didn't get your memo. |
Gee I don’t know.....maybe because they are objectively better colleges? |
"Full stop." Very British. I am guessing you are the person who didn't like it when Oxford was questioned as #1 on the list. |
Ha ha. I am not the full stop poster but I was the quibble poster. The person who was eye rolling on THE naming Oxford as number one annoyed me because it’s not like the other rankings were so different. I’m American as apple pie and have no affiliation with Oxford. |
The others rankings all have Oxford behind Harvard, MIT, and Stanford. I think that is closer to the current consensus in academia if you are looking at quality of faculty, research, and influence. |
Oh Jesus give it a rest. |
No. |
| Then be smarter. |
Wish they made the lists sortable! |
There is usually a significant component of these rankings that is based on the volume, quality, and influence of research and publications coming from these universities. UVA isn't as strong across the board as a school like Berkeley. This isn't really relevant to the quality of undergraduate education in my opinion. |
Poor job at research does not mean great job at teaching undergraduate students just like bad job at research doesn't necessarily mean great job at teaching undergraduate students. Lot of research means more opportunities for undergrad to gain research experience and having professors with great reputations such as Nobel laureates. For example, Berkeley I think has the most number of Nobel laureates of all the universities which is impressive for a state university. |
If you look at Berkeley undergraduate ratings of teachers on websites like Niche, they don't seem relatively satisfied. Having a Nobel laureate you either don't see or only see in a huge lecture hall doesn't cut it. |
