No conspiracy theory here. Mailboxes are removed routinely as routes change, or when drivers aren't available. You do know we're in the middle of a pandemic, right? Next you're going to say that the USPS has reduced the number of trucks, drivers, mail processors, etc.... all tied into Trump somehow engineering the USPS to rig the election.

Holy paranoia Batman!

Yeah, well, the Republican Senator from Montana (who, by the way, is up for reelection) doesn't think this is "routine" or normal.

I see nothing in his inquiry having anything to do with the election. It also may be that he has received correspondence from his constituents that he felt it appropriate to make an inquiry. He could just be trying to look good to his constituents and local voters. Again, I don't see the broader conspiracy you're peddling.

Considering Trump's attacks on the USPS, on voting by mail, and all of these moves by a Trump donor that mail carriers and postal workers don't understand, you're not AT ALL suspicious? Really? -NP

First, the USPS has had problems for years, if not decades. They existed under Obama, but he didn't do much to fix them.
Second, mass voting by mail hasn't been done before. Now is not the time to experiment with it, unless you want a giant mess as demonstrated by recent state efforts.]
Third, a Trump donor getting the job isn't unusual, as a PP explained (even Joe Biden will be appointing donors).

Seems to me that Trump has a legitimate concern that the Democrats are pushing vote by mail to create a massive controversy like the 2000 presidential election. Btw, there is significant potential for voter fraud because unlike the voting booth, ballots mailed in are subject to all sorts of pressure from family and friends (or heaven forbid, a single family member filling out the mail in ballot, sealing up the envelope, and asking Grandma to just sign the outside.

Since Democrats are so hot on pandemic preparation, why aren't they pushing really hard to have safe, in-person voting? Seems to me that would be the better course of action.

How can we plan for safe voting if we can't even open schools?

Talk to the teachers unions who refused to show up to work. And the democratic school officials who want to keep schools closed, even though Trump offered them $105 billion to upgrade their HVAC systems, buy PPE, etc... Instead of accepting the money to open schools, folks like Nancy Pelosi preferred to hold hostage unemployment payments and other things that would help average Americans to get a $3.4 trillion bailout for state and local budgets.

I'm just one person. Why should I have to talk to the teachers unions? Can't our elected officials handle this? It's their job.

By the way, I live in Alabama. Governor- Republican. State Legislature- Republican.Teachers union- Republican. School officials- Republican. Superintendent- Republican and cites Jesus in his emails. In my school district, the schools were closed by Republicans. So when you try to blame Democrats, I just immediately discount everything you say as nonsense.

By the way, where I live (virtual) school started this week. So when Trump offered money for the schools to start TWO WEEKS AGO, everyone just ignored him. People need to make plans in order to be successful. Trump's interesting in reopening schools starting TWO WEEKS AGO, was foolish because plans take time to implement. Why did he work on this in March? Or April? Or May? Or June? His "efforts" were too little too late.

Unfortunately, your elected officials would rather just say no school to avoid political blowback. In some cases, schools are being kept closed even though the science dictates they should be open. In Maryland, the MoCo health official even tried to over-reach by ordering private schools closed.

On the issue of the USPS, there are plenty of guidelines for in-person activities. But to use your example of schools planning to be open for in-person classes, mail-in voting takes time plan and to implement. Why didn't the USPS work on this in March, April or May? For the same reason the schools didn't.

Um, installing donors as appointees has gone on for centuries. Even Biden plans to do it:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/08/11/biden-donors-envoys-393594

Stupid trumpster. An ambassador is not the same thing as the head of a department. Don’t you know that?

Fine, Obama appointed donors across his administration.

https://www.politico.com/story/2011/06/obama-donors-net-government-jobs-056993

I guess the folks who just donated $26M expect nothing in return from Biden/Harris, right?

Every single other administration (r and d) appointed people who had some experience. Trump just appoints loyalists. No other president has done this. Ok, except for Michael Brown at FEMA. We know how that turned out.

I actually was in favor on in person school until this week. Georgia and Mississippi proved that schools should be online until the spread is low. It's too disruptive to learning when tens or even hundreds of people in a school have to quarantine. The teachers here were right- and I was wrong.

I actually don't care about voting by mail, but am very concerned about the general function of the USPS. Mail only runs 3-4 days a week now here. Packages take 2 weeks to receive. My company depends on reliable mail service. Trump is killing the USPS.

Get your ballot early and send it back immediately
Put a first class stamp on it
Stop your online shopping for the latter half of October through Election Day
But I’m going in person. I don’t care if I have to wear a HazMat suit and stand in line for 12 hours.

Sooooo disingenuous. We are not falling for your spin.

Do you know what would support your argument about democrats trying to create a controversy? If Trump fully funded and supported mail in voting and then democrats STILL challenged the results. What kind of hairbrained strategy would call for acting in ways that clearly are in line with actively underlining the vote? Any strategist would fully act towards supporting the USPS so that democrats would have no way whatsoever to claim fraud.

What a transparent guise to literally steal an election. How can you sleep at night?

What the fcking hell are you talking about? Why not advertise your general ignorance more loudly? The USPS doesn’t have anything to do with mail-in voting except delivering the ballots to and from the election officials, so that’s your first point of ignorance. Until the GOP realized the blue tsunami of mail that was about to wash them away, the USPS had the capacity the do this. In the second place, states run the elections and they have decided on a state by state basis how elections will be conducted. They did in fact plan for this, and have been for years. It’s not some crazy-eyed loon sending a hundred ballots to their friends and relatives (at least it isn’t in blue states; anything goes for the lawless GOP and since they use projection like some people use oxygen, maybe that’s how they are running elections).

(So if you’re wrong about this, what else are you wrong about?)

Or look up election ballot dropboxes. There should be some in MoCo - they were used in the primary this year.

Of all the shi!!y underhanded things this unAmerican administration has done, this really flushes the country down the toilet. Un-freaking-believable.

Can someone please make a stickie for Jeff to keep at the top of both the Political Forum and the Local Politics Forum, with date reminders on early mail-in voting, hand-delivered mail voting with election drop box locations, and in-person voting advice?

Thank you.

But I’d only hand in mine, and couldn’t offer to take in any elderly or otherwise compromised person’s ballot for them, because Trump would call it fraud. We have to be smart about this. He will not leave willingly.

So I just checked and my credit rating has gone down because checks I have mailed with due bills have arrived late.

Thanks Trump.

I'm the one who keeps posting about The Big Send (writing letters to voters).

Should this method not be used this year? Should we save all postal resources for ballots?
