20 people shot in SE on Sunday, no comment?

Folks, what's new? This is why DC does illegal search & seizure, stop & frisk. This is the main source of violence in DC in the summer. Drive by shootings

Some way, some how, this is all the fault of some family in Bethesda with kids in a private.

This is such a stupid straw man. Is the country’s ongoing systemic racism a factor in the cycle of reckless violence that plagues the city? Yes! That does not mean anyone is blaming your family. Try to behave like a respectable adult.

You do realize that all the shooters were black, right?

It's systemic racism that makes black people shoot black people?

Of course. How is the even a question.

You missed your calling as a defense attorney.

And to the pp, this violence will only end when you stop being racist LOLZ

Metro section describes the recent drive by murder of Richard Bangura, Dunbar graduate, headed to Temple, wanted to be a judge or politician. Sounds like a wonderful young person. His dad is speculating it may have been over liking a certain rap group. Where is the Mayor and our city council on this?

Yes, anyone with a brain realizes this. Systemic racism provides disproportionate access to quality education, quality housing, and jobs to black people via redlining, lending discrimination, employment discrimination, disproportionate policing and harsher sentences, and other means. When denied education, housing, and jobs, black people disproportionately turn to crime to give them what society denies them which leads to higher rates of violence.

Please tell the class how 3 or 4 guys shooting randomly into a crowd is giving those young black men something that society has denied them. We’ll wait on you.

Still waiting on an answer.

What did society deny those young black men that had to made up for by shooting into a crowd of random people?

I'm not PP but his/her point went right over your head. They are young people who have grown up at a severe disadvantage systemically. So of course, not all disadvantaged youth turn into shooting criminals, but others, who may have mental health issues or childhood trauma involving murder and abuse by the adults in their lives are not served in our system and lose control.
There are upper class DCUM parents in SN forum who sometimes have to put their kid in inpatient or private hospitalization, and are struggling to no end, and that's with unlimited resources.
Can't you imagine a disadvantaged minority youth who doesn't have ANY of those resources? They are not trying to gain anything except a tiny bit of respect and that's literally the only way they know how/can.

So they gain respect shooting a kid who is going to college?
Got it.

I was on a Zoom conference call this week and a very woke somewhat prominent media person questioned the value of crime reporting. Is this the next big push -- like doing away police blotters, shootings, stabbings, murder write-ups? Her talking points were super crisp, so I know it wasn't her talking off the cuff.

I'm convinced people like this don't have to worry about being the victim of a crime. They certainly don't live in my neighborhood. Must be nice to be so privileged.

what's the purpose of news reporting in general? Once we are rid of Trump (the sole purpose of CNN coverage it seems) we can just eliminate all reporting of hard news and default to feel-good human interest stories.

Correct. That is the small world that they know and their peers in that small world respect them for it. If you ever talk with one of these unfortunate youths they will tell you themselves " my dad is locked up, my mom doesn't care, and the world thinks I'm a thug. My crew is my family and I need to earn their respect." I'm glad you understand now.

^^sorry if I wasn't clear. The respect is related to the shooting of an enemy or a jumping in type situation. That someone innocent (going to college, or a child) gets hit is an unfortunate side effect that is considered part of "the life."

It was all literally explained to you in the post you are replying to. How dumb do you have to be to not understand that?
