Could you do both? It costs you nothing to keep the charter spot. If possible, shift one parent's schedule to cover morning meeting and drop off at daycare. Tell the teacher's DC hates virtual learning and get the course work from them to practice at home. it's like letters, numbers, etc so your kid will learn that at daycare anyway. |

Some of you are ridiculous, there was a whole thread here on ECE parents wanting some live lessons.
Parents complained to DCPS so they changed their minds, so yes you did help make this happen. And calm down your child is required 30 min of live 4/5 days of the week for a total of 120 min and a max of 240, depending on the school. 15 min out of that 120 is a family check in and another 15 in a one on one lesson. Teach your kid to sit for at least 30 min a day. That’s really not that hard. |
| That was my kid. It was ridiculous, but we survived. Took lots of effort though. |
|
If the teacher is engaging and the curriculum is age appropriate (reading, songs, circle time stuff) your child shouldn't have a problem participating for 30 minutes. Mine did last year and really enjoyed it!
Your child might complain before logging on, but once they're on and seeing the smiling teacher and other kids, they will be fine and will get used to the new routine. |
| PP -- that's your experience. not everyone got so lucky. |
| PK3 isn't mandatory. Do it if it works for you. |
|
For PK3? Don't even bother.

| The Parent University session was tonight. It was very helpful. They understand that families will need to get alternative childcare and aren’t requiring ECE kids to participate. Just log into Canvas once a day for attendance. Also, most teachers will be recording sessions to be viewed on demand by families. |
| In response to the teacher comment if an 8:30-3 schedule. Out DCPS explained that an ECE has 4-5 hours of live session teaching a day because they are breaking kids into small groups and one-on-one sessions which are better for student engagement. So yes- the teacher has a full schedule but the students are not live with their teacher more than 30-60 min. |
+1. My kindergartener wouldn’t engage at all. Different kids react to DL differently. For some it is very difficult. |
The challenge most daycares are doing strict drop-off time windows (like you have 15 minutes to drop off your kid, and if you're outside of the window you are SOL). My understanding is that this is an OSSE requirement. Thus, you can't just stay home in the morning to do the session and then drop your kid off later. |
Understood, but my point is to give it a shot. OP is already assuming it will be awful without having even tried it yet. |
Seriously. Our private preschool did a half hour session each day and we were still paying the tuition. But they had the sense to know not to park a 3 yo kid in front of a screen for two long. |
| A 30 minute morning meeting is very doable for a 3 year old. Songs, interactive activities (i.e. go find something green, your favorite book), share time/show and tell). Toddlers are very capable. |
ECE teacher. It is news to me that we will be recording anything. |
