Height is a longevity advantage for women but not for men

Because I am from former Yugoslavia and I was not the shortest girl/woman there, but I was not considered tall and it affected my self confidence. I want my dd to be tall, well, meaning over 5'8" tall. DS decided he hated food and stayed at 5'11". I wish everyday I could go back and try to impress on him that eating is important.

+1

And I think safer. People might be less likely to mess with someone who is bigger than they are.

As a woman, I've found just the opposite. My DH is 6'4" and he gets aggression from people. Nothing physical, of course but he definitely gets more attitude than I do. I'm petite and basically assumed to be non-threatening and get very little attitude.

My DD is average height and has never had any issues.

Right, she's not short. Try being under 5 feet. That's not great.

+1 average is fine. I'm 4'11. I have always lied and said 5'. LOL

My DD will probably be average height, and that's fine (DH is super tall). It could be worse. She could be super short like me.

I'm not sure how much that impacted him. Unless he had chronic malnutrition, his eating habits probably didn't impact his height all that much.

How tall are and your spouse?

My just turned 15 yr old DS is 5'3", but he hasn't hit puberty yet. Dad is super tall, but I'm super short. More than likely, DS will be average, but you just never know. DH said he was about the same height as DS at that age and was a late bloomer. He hit puberty and then grew almost a foot thereafter. DH is 6'3".

He had problems due to being below 1% in weight at 13. It impacted him, according to his pediatric endo and pediatric nutritionist. So, while he is fine, I suppose as many mothers I feel that I should have done better in that regard.

I don't care about my daughter. I don't believe that height is correlated to success in women.

Of course I realize all of this is out of my control.

i've read it somewhere going to bed early/not staying up late during growth years makes a not insignificant difference.

My 14 year old son is 6'1 and goes to sleep around midnight/1 am on a good day. 1 to 3 am on a meh day and 5 am on a bad day.

DP. How tall are you and your DH? Just curious.

Yes because at my high school reunion all the girls who were cute when we were in school had the worst shapes as adults. It's easier to hide the weight when you are tall.

12 year old DD is 5'7. I think she will be about 5'9. I'm 5'8 DH is 6'1.

I'm just shy of 5'7, dh shy of 6"0. We don't know of any especially tall people on either side of the family. I suspect he will taper off soon as his rate of growth has been slowing lately.

Dad is about 5”10, I am only 5”0. DD is 5”3

My DS started 9th grade around 5'2", he was close to being the shortest boy in his class. He was on the later side to start puberty and his peak growth came after most boys. Now starting 12th grade he's 5'10".

(I'm 5'3", DH is 6'1")

This.
I worry a little as I am about 5'5 and my husband is 5'9 on a good day. But my son is trending tall (though only 5 1/2 years old) and the men on my side of the family tend to be 6 ft +. If I could pick I'd pick at least 5'5 for my daughter but don't care all that much.
