Hanna/Hannah Hastle

Just name her and spell it so that it is less likely to be messed up.

If you name her Hanna you are essentially naming her Hannah, so make sure you’re okay with that.

That's a good point. It is easy to correct people, and once corrected, people will get it fast. But, it's totally up to the kid to correct past a certain age, and she could just decide not to.

For all the people claiming this is how observant Jews and Israelis pronounce it, you're right.

But it's not spelled like OP has it. The spelling with English letters is Chana.

And it's a guttural CH which doesn't exist in English.

Friend of mine named their daughter Anya and call her Ani, and get vey upset with people call her Annie, instead of Ani.

Anyone that has been to a germanic or nordic country will know how to pronounce it correctly. Everyone else (most people) will pronounce Hannah, but your child can correct them. I think Hanna is beautiful (and the name of a good friend of mine, by the way).

Also, now I am wondering if all the rich moms pronounce Hanna Anderssen as Hannah Anderson.

There is no one correct way. Hence this thread.

I like alliteration but I think Hannah Hastle sounds better than Hanna Hastle.

I think this was a reference to heil hitler. HH is their acronym and they’re a neo nazi org.

English speakers, and particularly Americans, are the only ones who will have this problem.
It doesnt seem so different to me than all the Anna’s and Andreas who also have to specifiy which A sound to use. So long as she (and you) won’t be super offended when people get it wrong.

I’m Jewish and I have a child with the initials HH. This literally never occurred to me once and no one has ever brought it up in 7 years.

THIS. If you are going to want the name pronounced properly you need to spell it Chana.

Hanna or Hana. There was an Anna like Awh-na and people adapted. Use the name and pronunciation you like. It's hard to tell which on paper but people will learn.

Shouldn't Anna like Awh-na be spelled Ana? I think people would pronounce it differently.

Since when does spelling it Hanna or Hannah change the pronunciation? I pronounce them both the same (and not the way OP wants), and know women with both spellings who all pronounce it the same way (again, not the way OP wants). I’d try Hana, that might work better (maybe).

My absolute favorite name of all time is Johanna. (Jo-hawn-uh). I lobbied really hard for this, but my husband countered back that it would be a lifetime of mispronunciation and incorrect spellings. Ultimately, we went for a different name for our baby girl.
