Why do they think anything will change in February?

There's some hope a vaccine could be available by then, but I think it's more of a "not before" date.

Some big shot Dr. announced today that he’s pretty sure this will be over by January. Too lazy to find the link but maybe somebody else can.

Then again Fauci and the AAP already said school should open so who even knows what the criteria is.

Doctor is just guessing. EVEN IF - best case scenario - vaccine is done by December, don't know efficacy and then we're faced with the issue that not everyone will want it. Anti maskers will turn into anti-vaxxers. Will that make a difference? Who knows but I think Jan/Feb might be too early. My guess is right after spring break.

He’s not only talking about a vaccine. He is talking about spread and immunity etc.

You mean, Trump's FDA Commissioner between 2017 and 2019, who resigned to spend more time with his family?

We're faced with the issue of actually getting everyone (or enough people) vaccinated. How long will it take to vaccinate 328 million people?

Not going to happen.

I’m not an anti-vaxxer and I wear my mask religiously.

But I absolutely will not make my kids get a Covid vaccine. No way, no how. IF it even comes out, it will have been rushed through.

I think there are many people who will (rightfully) decline a Covid vaccine.

the AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.

They also said as long as it's safe. I am not for or against school opening up or virtual only. I just wish some decision is made so I can plan accordingly.

Actually they didn't say "as long as it's safe" anywhere, because who determines what is safe?

Well, there you go, "until there's a vaccine" people. Until there's a vaccine = never.

Mind you, PP, although the vaccine effort will have been rushed through, that doesn't necessarily mean that the individual vaccine development, trials, approval, and manufacturing will have been rushed through. Usually they wait until they have approval to start manufacturing, because of the risk of non-approval, but as I understand it, they're already ramping up manufacturing now. That's where the time savings is coming from.

And the safe assumption is that it will stay that way, indefinitely.

Then what the F was the this model even mentioned?

I have lost all respect for teachers. I truly have.

It's pretty clear that the teachers don't want to go back. But it's not the teachers making the decision.

Not having in person school - at a MINIMUM just for elementary - is beyond insane in these circumstances. Totally not justifiable.

Because that stuff is happening OUTSIDE! Really, how hard is this?

Not all camps are outside.

The difference is in the absolute numbers. Students plus staff = almost 200,000 people = roughly one *fifth* of MoCo residents. Sure, they will not all be in one place, but the probability that an outbreak will happen is so much higher.

Roughly four-fifths of MoCo is currently out and about, not in one place.

First of all, no they are not. A great many people are still working from home and severely limiting their interactions and the time spent outside the home. Which is what everybody should be doing unless you are an essential worker. Second, they are not sitting in poorly ventilated rooms with a bunch of other people with questionable ability to keep their masks on. Third the PPs were specifically invoking camps and comparing them with school. The number of kids currently in in-person camps is minuscule compared to the number of public school students.

My kid so missing being in school.

I think they announce by the end of the week sooner is better. They need to stop planning for hybrid if it’s not happening. This will also allow parents more time to try to line up support for learning and childcare.

I would be thrilled if they just accepted reality and did this rather than squandering their resources on this dangerous hybrid nonsense

I know! They should listen to Ms. Devoss. She's the Secretary of Education after all. The economy > student welfare.
