There is no good DL for Kers. Especially those with no internet, no Chromebook, and no English speakers in the house. |
Nobody has any problem with remote instruction AS AN OPTION. But many of us would also like to have school as an option. |
EXACTLY. Most in fact, if the survey results in another thread are true. |
For a lot of kids, "the best possible distance learning" is still wholly inadequate. |
Keeping in mind that an unknown but greater-than-zero number of people responded to the survey, even though they weren't MCPS parents, because they wanted MCPS to stay closed. Or so they posted on DCUM. |
None of those are being sponsored by governments. Private citizens can make bad decisions for their families with less consequences than local and state governments. We declined a pool party this weekend. The invite came in a group text. I said I didn’t feel it was a good choice for my family under the current science. The hosting mom is very irritated with me now because she thinks I ruined it for other families by pointing out the risks. I never knew I was that charismatic by text.

Sure, but government can say: you're not allowed to have those, because of coronavirus. Government is not saying that, though. |
If that's true it's despicable. |
Huh? Government indicators are absolutely allowing this. |
Were these people real estate agents in Western MD?
I blame the person who posted the survey info on DCUM for any such crank responses. Anyone with a child in MCPS had it emailed and texted to them. There was no need to post it here considering how trolly this site is. Any truly motivated prankster could have just looked it up on the district website, but why make it easy for some bored kid on Kansas? |
Allowing and sponsoring are two different things. |
Because that stuff is happening OUTSIDE! Really, how hard is this? |
Not all camps are outside. |
It's a distinction without much of a difference. Either it's safe during coronavirus, or it's not safe. If it's not safe, government shouldn't allow it - regardless of whether it's a government-sponsored activity or not. |

By starting the year with VL through beginning of November, I think MCPS is buying themselves some time before they decide whether or not to keep it 100% VL through Jan. My guess is that it's a no brainer - VL will be decided soon after school starts.
