Everyone in family wants a dog--except for me

But your kids aren't worth taking on some work for? I think it's very wrong to deny your kids this. My DH would not allow us to get a dog for years (after the one we got together before marriage died and I married him as a dog person) and I did fight it, along with the kids. As far as I'm concerned, your husband has a right to let the kids know his side of this. Finally convincing my husband to allow the dog (just typing that makes me sick, why did get the final say, anyway?), was the best thing that happened to our family. Five years later and the dog continues to bring joy to the whole family--including my jerk of a husband.

I am sorry your marriage sucks.

The person that has to do all or most of the work absolutely should have final say. If the husband was willing and able to do the work, it would be a different discussion. And to compare the work of taking care of two cats to taking care of a dog is absurd. Most cats can be litter trained in a day or less. Housebreaking a dog is a much bigger commitment.

Cats are not work like dogs! No toilet training, no waking up early to walk, no baths, no walker expenses and you can even leave them alone for a weekend with automatic feeder. And they bring just as much love, joy and cuddling but without the smell. Try again!
