what boys names do you hear most at the playground/daycare/school?

"I'm so irked that Liam is trendy! I have one. His father is a William, and I love Liam Neesan. We have a nice solid Irish last name, so I thought it worked beautifully. "

Your just nailed why it became trendy. Lots of Williams in their 30s-40s, people who have heard of Liam Neesan, lots of Irish names gaining in popularity and most of all people who want to be cooler than their parents or choosing 'junior' but not to out there...Liam.

We named our first son, Tristan -- I don't seem to hear that name too often. Our second son, that will be due soon, we are naming Preston.

Some I hear are those last-names-as-first-names:

Parker, Grayson, etc.

And yeah, Liam, Aiden, Jack.

We wanted a less popular name and still ended up with John. Yet, I hardly ever hear "John" because everyone else uses the nickname Jack.

I agree with PPs on some of the more popular names around here - Henry, Ethan, Aidan, etc.

I have loved the name Ethan ever since I used to watch "thirtysomething" and that was the name of Nancy's son - but now I fear it is too popular to use. Alas...

Yes to all of these. We know at least one of each, and quite a few little Jacks. Ethan is also very popular around here. Zach (or Zack), too.

I only know one kid named Jacob - up in MA.

No Joshua or James kids.

A bunch of Jacks.

Will SOMEONE please name their son OTTO? I effin' love this name.

My hubs has vetoed it.

I guarantee, you'll not find another Otto at the playground.

This was my DH's grandfather's name, and DH reeeeeallly wanted to name our DS Otto. Not a chance. He even tried again with DS #2, though he knew I hated it. VETO!!!!!

Otto is super-awesome.

I'm a teacher at a school that spans 10 grades. As far as I know, we have only two Jacobs in the school, and one is older. Only one Jackson, too, surprisingly (but I don't think this is the norm). A handful of Joshes, and maybe one James. Half the people I know have named their kids Aidan, however.

Together they make a bit of a tongue-twister...

DS has a friend named Tristan (in first grade), but that's the only one I know. Maybe I watch too much Grey's Anatomy, but Preston makes me think of (the former) Dr. Burke from that show.

Actually, Calista Flockhart named her adopted son Liam in 2001... I think this led to the name being popular, not Tori Spelling's use of the name.
