What does the proctoring involve? I understand that SAT/ACT can theoretically "watch" the key strokes, and even require the use of the computer's camera to see the student working. However, exactly how do they know that it is actually that student that is sitting there? And how long do you think it will take some IT nerd to figure out how to get the computer's camera to stream a pre-recorded video of the student sitting there or some such thing? After the mess with the APs, I'd put money on the students' ingenuity with regard to cheating defeating the boards' expertise with the technology. That, or just like the APs, a technological breakdown. |
Lockdown browser prevents the student from leaving the test, video cameras track eye movements. I video is made and reviewed, if the live proctor believes there is deception the score is canceled. Theirs is no reason to believe high school students can outsmart experts and frankly if they could they will only have a few months to learn how to outsmart them before the test goes back to being in person next year. |
Well, you know, in Operation Varsity Blues scandal, it is all parents who cheated. They can (or hire experts) outsmart those experts hired by College Board. |

Oh wait, is this an SAT prediction thread? |
|
DS has been trying to register since Thursday. He was supposed to have priority reg. He was registered for March and June SAT. CB site crashed Thurs night. Act also a s*it show. HS offering Aug SAT but full. Principal trying to add more seats.
He's been studying for both ACT and SAT because he's not sure when he'll get an open seat or if one or both will be cxld since we're in NY. This thread derailed over the merits of tests online. Should I start a thread for parents of Juniors? Or is there already one that I can't find? |
+1 Same here PP. willing to go to AG’s office with this, as CB non responsive. Total DH&this show - both here and with SAT. People can’t stay in their lane - would love new thread! |
|
FFS, CB can’t get their act together for proper registration. It almost has to be online - either that, or CB has to quadruple the seats for the current class.
Class of 2022 HAS to be shut out for now, no way around it. |
+2. We gave up trying to contact ACT and SAT last week, am going to try again this morning. What a disaster. ACT says we can change our (June) registration to July without cost, but guess what? I can't get past the page where they want my credit card for $52. |
I got stuck there too, but I went to FAQs and they state the way their site is set up, you have to pay that cost and then your original registration cost will be refunded in 3-5 days. Ha, we'll see if that actually happens...and if it doesn't if we can ever get through to them. |

I registered DS for the July ACT and the closest to us is 45 minutes. I decided to go for it, just to get it done. Hopefully that date will actually happen.
Has anyone heard anything about an in-school SAT in the fall? Our high school was participating in the March one that was cancelled, and haven't heard anything about a reschedule. |
+1 I don't care what anyone says, there is no reason a a 2022 HAS to take the test in the next 5 months. None. |
It's OP of above rant. So glad parents of Juniors replied, thank you. As of this morning, still a s**t show for both ACT SAT. Have been on hold for 1 hour 30 min and still on hold as I type this. My son is on hold on his phone (ACT) for an hour plus doing school work. I emailed both. Finally caved and emailed HS principal. He told us to register for August SAT at any location and he'll add seats. Sounds great right? Nope, can't register for anything because they bumped him out of priority reg since my desktop screen has been frozen since Thurs night lol. DS didn't want me to close it because he believed it would cancel priority queue. I just decided screw it and closed only to start over and be prompted that he's not priority and pushed to register June 3. Let's start a Junior thread please! I'll do it soon...or if anyone isn't currently in test reg hell, please take the lead. |
| My son must have been bumped of priority cue too. He says calls are not being taken by CB. He will try to register wed again. Wherever he can get a spot. |
My friend signed her 2022 DD up for a $1,200 SAT prep class for August before any of this happened. She can't get a refund or postpone the session. I can see why she'd want her DD to take the August or September test to get the full benefit of the class. I'm sure there are others in a similar boat. You might disagree whether that's a valid reason for her to sign her DD up, but I'm guessing she will and she'll feel she's justified taking one of those spots. I would if I were in the same boat. |
