The international SAT and ACT have been online for years. They use online proctors for exams now. Welcome to 2020.

This is true. Now solve the access problem of students whose only device is a cell phone with spotty WiFi.

If poor students in other nations can find a way, American students can as well. Personally I say online should be for students who don't have wifi issues and who don't need extra time. Those students can take it in person, there's so few of them that social distancing wouldn't be an issue. Online exams is good as the student gets their score back within a day as opposed to weeks.

Just to reiterate to the misguided PPs, no, the international SAT and ACT have not been online for years. International students have taken online ACT at test centers with in-person proctoring. At-home ACT has never been given. SAT has never been given online anywhere, ever, either at home or at test centers.

Connectivity issues likely disproportionately affect the poor, and can also be a matter of bad luck, rural locations, etc. The testing companies would need to find a solution; I don't know what that might be other than retakes. From what we saw with the AP exams, uploading was more challenging than downloading; sometimes the cable internet providers attach a filter that alters upload speed and can actually disrupt the upload.

At-home SAT/ACT will for sure create cheating, especially for those administrated outside of US. SAT/ACT is much more important than AP tests. Either they should be at a test center or all colleges should not consider them.

Which APs were a debacle? My kid said they were brilliant and really well handled.

Do you live under a rock?

NP, parent of an AP exam taker. Was totally fine, no issues. People are amplifying exceptions as if they are the rule.

There isn't any uploading with a multiple-choice exam.

Not in terms of size of data, no. But at some point, everything does get uploaded, whether the whole test's answers or question by question, and that can, in fact, get interrupted. Ever click on something and nothing happens? There can be delays on the upload end, right down to a single click.

Not true. NP here - my child had issue. Nothing was ever resolved. They could not tell us what caused the issue. They just wanted DC to sign up for retake, with no assurance that the same issue would not occur again. We still have no idea what the issue was. For kids that have been studying their hearts out for some time, this was such a letdown.

AP Spanish Lang for one. It took my kid 20 minutes. How much do you think they are possibly testing?
Most of the classes had material cut. I wouldn’t consider them a success.

They registration is up, and it is a complete cluster, as expected.

To add, would love to hear from people who had success getting through.

This is OP, and we were able to easily switch DS's registration to a new date. He was registered for the May testing date that was cancelled, so had priority registration.

My son tried for three hours and was not able to register. I have had it!

I tried for two hours last night and couldn't get anywhere. I was up at 5:00am and was able to register DS for the August date, at our high school, in less than a minute.

Just registered for August. Super quick. Looks like seats available at Wilson.

Is Wilson a good test center?

They will be proctored. Why is this hard for people to understand?
