Restaurant/bakery desserts you have been loving?

A new favorite is Sunday Morning Bakeshouse in Rockville/North Bethesda - love everything but particularly their cream cheese frosting cinnamon rolls!

-another baked good snob routinely disappointed by the places everyone else raves about (who also has weird weaknesses for certain bad grocery store cakes!

I heart you. Pastries by Randolph has closed for the pandemic. I love their custard danish and fruit sponge cakes. I have taken solace in Entemann’s chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.

Another thought- Summerhouse in Pike and Rose has excellent PB cookies and their s’mores bar is good, too.

I have driven way out of my way for a rocky road brownie from SpringMill. They got me through some hard times, sliver by delicious sliver.

I find them really mixed. The pies are almost always soggy at the bottom and some of the stuff is too dry/sweet. The whoopie pies are good if you like super sweet whoopie pies. The one in Upper Marlboro used to have a honeybee cake that was really great -- not sure if they still make it as we moved to a different part of MD. And the one in Annapolis has very good German Chocolate Cake and fudge.

Also find the Amish markets desserts way too sweet. How are the donuts? Has anyone tried?

Their pretzels are good (and pretzel dogs etc) but I am not a fan of the baked goods at the Amish markets (or those selling on the road side in OH and PA). Just because they’re Amish doesn’t mean they can bake well, in my experience!

Smith island cakes deliver too...or used to. I hope they are still working.

I really like the tarts from Fresh Baguette, but I prefer fruit based desserts rather than super sweet stuff.

What about La Bohemia in Rockville? Limited selection but I like their cream puffs and tarts. Excellent baguettes and croissants.

Mastiha Bakery in Kensington. Discovered them a couple of years ago when I had a craving for baklava. They specialize in Greek deserts. Love their baklava but my favorite is their melomakarona. You can order online and pick up.

If you eat them the day of, they are pretty good. Not worth going out of your way to get one, though,.
